Chapter four
"My Alpha, I apologize for intruding. I've just received a message from the Lycan King," Beta Roland hurriedly entered the room, holding a document.
"What message?" Alpha Damien inquired, pushing me away from him. I slid down the marbled wall and ended up on the floor.
"Have you dispatched my response to the Silvermoon pack?" I inquired of my second-in-command, Beta Robert, who had found me pacing about my office, preoccupied with thoughts of the stranger I'd encountered during my night out at the pub.
"Yes, my Lord. I sent it as soon as I received the order," Beta Robert replied, bowing respectfully.
"Good."
I am the Lycan King, the mightiest, most fearless, and formidable Lycan in the city. I reign over the Blue moon pack and tolerate no insolence.
Three years ago, I lost my mate during a rogue attack, leaving me mateless and desolate ever since. I had fervently prayed for a second chance mate from the Moon Goddess, but she had taken her time before finally pairing me with the enchanting young woman I had met at the pub the previous night.
I had ventured to the pub to drown my sorrows when I spotted her amidst a group of rogue youths who were intent on taking advantage of her. I intervened, rescuing her from their clutches and escorting her to a nearby hotel, where an unexpected one-night encounter unfolded.
There was something undeniably peculiar about this woman. Beyond the fact that she was my mate, I sensed she carried deep emotional scars. In her inebriated state, she had confided in me, revealing that her birthday had been the previous day and that her mate was Alpha Damien of the Silvermoon pack. She disclosed that she had been rejected by him and compelled to accept his rejection. She shared that she had no family, no relatives, no friends, despite her striking beauty. These were the revelations she made during her drunken stupor, unaware that I was already privy to this information.
I was determined to liberate her from the clutches of Alpha Damien of the Silvermoon pack and elevate her to the position of Queen of the Lycans. She would become the youngest Queen in the city and bring further honor to my name under the new Moon.
Yesterday morning, I received an invitation from Alpha Damien to preside over his engagement ceremony scheduled to commence tomorrow. No Alpha would dare host such a celebration without inviting a legend like me. Initially, I contemplated declining the invitation, but I had a change of heart upon discovering that my second chance mate was a mere maid in Alpha Damien's pack. I would attend the event and claim what rightfully belonged to me.
Today, I would depart from the Bluemoon pack for the engagement ceremony. Gathering more information about her was crucial, and I was determined to ensure she accompanied me when I returned to the Bluemoon pack. Alpha Damien would soon find out that he was hosting the most formidable of all.
"Are we ready to leave?" I inquired of Beta Robert.
"Yes, my Alpha. Everything is prepared," Beta Robert replied.
"Keep a close watch on the girl once we arrive at the Silvermoon pack. She must accompany us back to the Bluemoon pack today," I instructed Beta Robert.
"I will follow your instructions, My Alpha. You are the mightiest Lycan in the City. You can claim whatever you desire," Beta Robert bowed and affirmed.
Suddenly, Lily, Alpha Ben's eldest daughter and my late mate's senior sister, barged into the office, her hands raised in a confrontational manner.
Ever since I lost my mate in the rogue war, Lily had been a constant thorn in my side. She accused me of killing her younger sister and had forcibly imposed herself on me.
Alpha Ben had been the designated king of the Lycans during the last Moon Festival held several years ago. He had given me a choice: select one of his two daughters to be arranged as my mate before he could step down as the incoming Lycan of the City. I had chosen ivy, lily's younger sister, and she had become my Queen. Everything had proceeded smoothly until the tragic day when I lost both Ivy and Alpha Ben.
Lily had threatened me to select her as my new Luna, claiming that I had deliberately murdered her father and sister to annul the arranged marriage contract between us—an accusation I vehemently denied.
This legal dispute had become a major issue within the pack, and the pack's lawyer had warned me that if I didn't resolve it, I would either need to step down as the Lycan King or choose Lily as my new Luna and Queen. It was the primary reason I had gone to the pub the previous night to drown my sorrows in alcohol before encountering my second chance mate.
"How dare you question my authority, Lily? Are you losing your senses?" I retorted angrily.
"You're the one who has lost your senses, Alpha! You murdered my father and my beloved sister just to be with a common girl from the Silvermoon pack," Lily began her usual display of crocodile tears
"Lily", she's our Alpha's second chance mate. You should be rejoicing that the Moon Goddess has finally answered our prayers," Beta Robert informed Lily.
"What's it to you, fool? Were you there when my father stepped down for your Alpha? You better keep your mouth shut," Lily insulted Robert. Robert frowned at her, his fist clenched, but he refrained from striking her. Lily might have met a severe consequence if not for her position within the pack.
"Learn your place in this pack, Lily. Never speak disrespectfully to my Beta again, or you'll face dire consequences," I moved closer, roaring the warning into Lily's ears.
