Amara barely had time to breathe before one of the rogues broke past him and lunged toward her. She screamed, stumbling back, hands raised in defense— But something exploded inside her. A silver shockwave burst from her chest, slamming the rogue mid-air and sending him flying into a tree with a sickening crack. Silence fell for a heartbeat. Everyone stared. Amara’s breathing came in short, shaking bursts. Her hands trembled, glowing faintly with silver veins crawling up her arms. Her skin pulsed with something ancient—something not quite wolf... and not quite human either. Kaden turned slowly, blood streaking down his jaw, his eyes wide. “You—how did you—?” “I don’t know,” she whispered. The rogue leader—bleeding, laughing—pulled himself up. “She’s awakening,” he said. “The bloodline lives.” Kaden didn’t hesitate. He launched forward, grabbing the rogue by the throat. “I warned you.” There was a crunch, a final gasp—and then silence. The last two rogues retreated into the shadows, limping and howling into the night. Amara collapsed to her knees. “What’s happening to me?” Kaden knelt beside her, cupping her face gently. For the first time, his touch wasn’t cold—it was grounding. “You’re not just a hybrid,” he said quietly. “You’re a blood heir. A legacy hidden by the Nightborn for centuries.” She blinked at him, dazed. “And you knew?” “I suspected. But seeing that—what you just did—” He exhaled slowly, his jaw tight. “You’re more than a mate, Amara. You’re a weapon.” ---
