Instinct

Archer P.O.V It's been days since the claiming ceremony with Maye, and instead of the peace and calm, I would have expected. There is more tension and feral drive within my soul, though I'd admit claiming the widow does help my sanity a little. Because the usual dark instinct to destroy which my wolf has been feeling since my mate ran away has been replaced by the constant need to f**k, at least pounding the overdrive energy into the widow has somehow helped my wolf maintain the tension. Not that I'd given up the search for my mate, while the majority of the pack believed she was dead which is why she hasn't been found yet. I know I'd feel it if her soul is gone from this world. But that doesn't mean I don't know the pack members are walking on eggshells around me, which has further prompted the pack elders to insist on the claim. I know elder Wolfe pushed it more than the rest of the elders though, knowing his niece is the only widow young enough for me to claim. He knew I'd never claim a widow with pups or gray hair. But having known how the old runt thinks, I have my backup plan against when my mate is finally found. Which I believe won't be long I woke at the crack of dawn, with Maye on the bed naked. I walked out of the room and went into the bathroom to get ready for the day, running a pack as large as this has its perk. After getting ready I walked to the pack house for breakfast, I can feel my wolf getting irritated in a fur-raising kind of way. Maybe we just need to go for a run, it's been two months since I last shifted. My beta was already there when I reach the dining room, he lower his head in greetings a sign of submission without words being spoken. I nodded in acknowledgment as I move to my sit at the table. We eat in silence "I will be heading to the training ground", Anchor said before excusing himself after breakfast. I nodded as I looked at the retrieving back of my beta, I just can't stop getting that feeling about something being wrong out of my mind, he has been acting a bit strange lately maybe it has to do with his mate, seeing as they are trying to have a pup. I finished my breakfast and headed to my office to sort out some work, it was around midday when I linked my beta and his female to meet me in the office for a brief meeting. The beta walked into my office followed by his mate Anya the beta female and I can't again stop to notice his tense body, I motioned for them to sit. "Anya, I was hoping you can hand pick a female who can go to the local town in place of you for the pack's supplies before the full moon. I don't want you going" I told the beta female "I also want all the ox skin to be taken out for trading on their visit, and I want you to appointment the unmated males who will be in charge of patrol". I said looking at Anchor my Beta "Yes, Alpha," the beta pairs reply in unison. "What are the local traders from the West saying?" I ask looking at Anchor. But before he can reply, my wolf started getting agitated and pacing again only this time it was more aggressive. I tried playing him down just to concentrate on the meeting, as Anchor started filling me in. I felt an instinctual urge to stand up and go outside. Been the Alpha, my wolf fight me as I try on playing him down, he forced out a harsh growl when I again try to suppress him causing my beta female to flinched back and assume a submissive pose with her eyes down, not that the female did anything wrong but I know it's useless to try and explain to her that my wolf is just cranky and won't stop fusing. "Let's end the meeting for now", I said to my beta pairs, Anya was too happy to go as she instantly stand up and walk out of the office. I don't blame her though, she had enough on her plate without me adding to her stress. My beta looked at me, raising a brow. "I'm fine, my wolf just won't stop fussing," I said before he can ask, my wolf forced out another throaty growl. "I think you should go for a run, all those bent energy inside isn't helping you". My beta said before standing "I plan to do that tonight, want to come along, you looked stressed too". I told him as I close the folders on my table. "I pass tonight, I'm running the first shift of patrol", he said as he leave my office. I rounded my table following him out, the moment I stepped outside I can feel a shift in the afternoon air. There is a different scent almost wiped out by the passing breeze. My wolf raises and starts pacing again. I followed Anchor outside and stopped opposite the male workshop, I saw the beta female coming from the small road that lead to my great aunty's cabin with a container in hand. I look at her with a raised brow She smiles and points to the container, "the healer sent it". She said. I nodded and remember it's been a while since I last saw my great aunty. Maybe I should go see her and get some calming tea for my wolf I thought to myself. I stood outside watching as the beta pairs walk hand in hand towards their cabin, before turning and heading back to my office. I needed to sort out some of this workload before going for a run tonight. And as I sat behind the table in my office trying to get some work done, I can't seem to get a certain brown wolf out of my mind.
