Eleven: Pack Village

1072 Words
It's been two weeks since I've been living with the healer, I admit it's peaceful. The kind of peace my wolf and I crave, and I believed the healer relish in it too. Probably one of the reasons she lives yards away from the village. Most times during the night I'd hear occasional laughter and voices from the village through my small window, and other times I'd hear growls and sneers. My wolf hasn't spoken to me since I changed to my human form, and truly I wasn't bothered we usually go months without so much as a hiss between us. The beta female has come to the cabin two more times since her last visit, and we'd sat on the bench each time and talked, though she mostly does the talking while I occasionally nod or hummed, and before she go she'd invited me over to the village. Not that I didn't like the female or consider her invitation to the village evil, but rather I feel uneasy about going into the mist of shifters I know nothing about. The healer has tried easing my fear which I didn't even tell her about, by telling me where exactly to go and where not to go. She'd let me know that the female workshop is a friendly place to visit but I shouldn't go to the male workshop alone nor should I go close to the training ground or the pack's office, though I had no idea how to know which one is which. And twice during the past week, she'd shared with me some knowledge of her healing and insights on pack. She'd make me know that a shifter female without the knowledge of her kind is weak and considered a burden within the pack. She'd take her time to enlighten me about the matters of the mates and marking, which make me feel guilty considering I ran away from my supposed mate. But she told me not to feel that kind of emotion only because I did not know enough about our kind at the time. And she also assured me that the pull of the mate and the will of the goddess will bring us together again, which I considered a mere assurance. The male should have been able to find me by now if it is as the healer believed, knowing there are only just four shifters packed in the land according to her. Besides, I like living with the healer now, which might have changed if the male had found me. I was sitting at a corner in the cabin's guest room mixing herbs, the healer has left to collect some arrowroot from the forest opposite the cabin to prepare womb tea. I looked up smiling when I heard the familiar tapping of her staff, have learned she doesn't appreciate any form of sympathetic help as she believed her sightlessness is part of her healing gift. "I can sense your joy from miles away," the healer said as she walked in making my smile wilder. "Here, the herb is blended," I said as I pushed the mixed bowl of herb to the side and stand up dusting my hands. "You're a natural Thyra", she said as she used her staff to locate the position of the bowl. I walked toward the water basin and washed my hand, before drying them on my skirt. I watch as the healer mix the arrowroot with some other herbs and pour it into a container with a lid. "Take this to the beta female, she wants you to bring it". she said thrusting the container in Infront of me. I stood rooted to the ground and look at the healer with my mouth agape, she hasn't said that, has she? "The beta female will be expecting you, take the road by the left side it's easier to locate the village through that road," she said with finality. _____________________________________ My wolf stirred as I get closer to the pack's ground feeling edgy and uneasy, as I turn the last corner I saw the packed village come into view. There are similar cabins just like the healer's own scattered around, some small, some big. I saw some group of pups running around in shorts, and distance thuds sounded from what I assumed is the pack's workshop though I have no idea if that was the male or female workshop slowly I advance towards it. I was blocked by a young bulky female a few feet from the workshop, "Sorry not here, this is the male workshop; the beta female is in a meeting with the alpha and told me to make sure you didn't wander. She will be back soon, by the way, I'm Bears" the female said smiling. I nodded, she looked at me with a raised brow before pointing to herself and mouthing Bears. "Thyra", I reply in a clipped tone. "The beta female said you're from the wild, and here to gain knowledge of healing ", she said smiling I ignored her by looking around at the pack settings as the pups from earlier once again run by us laughing with a juvenile wolf on their heels. "That's the pack's office", she said pointing at a white cabin in the distance. " That's where the Alpha and the beta pairs are having their meeting". My wolf perks up at that, and I turn my head to look at her. Before looking back at the cabin "That's where the beta female went?" I asked trying to smooth my wolf down. "Oh, the beta female is heading out". I better go now, see you next time". She said a minute before the beta female appear from the entryway. "It's good to see you Thyra", Anya shouted and waved from afar as she walked towards me smiling. I forced a smile of my own, "the healer sent me to give you this", I said passing the herbal container to her as she reached me, she took it from me and examined it. "Thank you, will you like me to show you around the pack before you head back", she asked "No it's fine, I need to head back now, maybe some other time". I said as my wolf again shook her fur. "I see you some other times then", she said as she walked me back towards the road to the healer's cabin.
