Ten: Freedom

As the beta promised he returned minutes later and told me to follow him, I stood shakily on my weak legs before following him out of the door.

The moment I step out of the dungeon entryway I was momentarily blinded by the sun and fell ass down on the dirty floor, the beta hurried over and help me up.

"Thank you," I mutter embarrassed.

He frowned at me before he continues walking, I hurriedly followed behind him, we took a narrow path and ended up on a dirty road piled with dry leaves and rotten seeds overlooking a little cabin.

I spotted someone's silhouette from afar in front of the cabin, as we moved in closer I noticed her Iris and hair are of the same white color, and a finely crafted staff was resting on her lap. I traced the length of her white hair to the base of her waist and what I assumed was her once perfectly heart-shaped face now covered in wrinkles, it spoke volumes about her beauty during her maiden days.

"Come sit down", she said the moment she sense me, I looked over at the beta and he nodded his approver. I took a few steps towards her and gingerly sat down beside her on the wooden bench while the beta stood opposite us.

" I heard you're from the wild, where are your parent? she asked turning her head to look at me.

"They died, I said avoiding her ghostly iris by looking at her staff.

"What is your name and where are your parents originated from?" She asked turning her gaze back to the small trail opposite the cabin

"I don't know, have lived in the wild all my life with my parent before they pass, you can call me Thyra". I replied

"Thyra, you're in the Northern Cheyenne pack, I'm the healer here. I believe you don't have where to go, so I'm offering you my cabin to stay with me, is that ok with you?" she asked looking at me.

I nodded before looking at her, I felt excitement and relief at the thought of freedom from the dungeon, at least her cabin looks warm and will probably have enough food in it, compare to the dungeon. I'm happy she's offering me a place to stay, my eyes glassed over as I sniffed back unshed tears.

"Thank you", I mumbled in a low tone but I'm sure she heard me. She looked over at me and hold my hands patting them lightly.

" Anchor, go in and bring Thyra some food, I'm sure you probably feed her garbage for the past weeks. She said smiling.

After serving me a plate full of beef, roasted cones, and vegetables, the beta left to goddess knows where allowing me to consume my food in peace.

The healer later shows me to a small room in the cabin, and the moment my body hit the small mattress I doze off.

I woke up to faint murmurs in the cabin, the moonlight was pouring through my window, and the evening breeze carried the earthly scent of herbs and spices.

"Make sure you drink it until the next full moon and don't forget to come for a refill, it will boost your womb in preparing itself. I will send a message to the Alpha to reduce your pack duty when the full moon is close" I heard the healer say to a young female as I walk into the hall, they were sitting in the guest room.

"Yes healer, the female said before looking up at me.

"Thyra, I wasn't expecting you to be up until tomorrow, this is Anya, the beta female of the pack. The healer said twisting her small body to look at me.

I nodded in acknowledgment at the female before walking past them and heading outside. "Don't wander", I heard the healer call after me.

I was sitting on a bench outside the cabin star gazing when the beta female walked out of the cabin to join me.

"I heard you're from the wild", she said bending down to pick a stone. "The healer said you're here to gain knowledge of healing from her".

I turned my head to look at her, brown eyes gleaming under the moonlight, with dark lengthy hair fanning around her, she looked about my age maybe a few months older with an air of mischief. I turned my gaze back towards the sky.

"The moon will be full in a few weeks again, I'm here to get herb that will help me in conceiving a healthy pup," she said.

When I didn't reply she continues

"You should try and come over to the main village when you have the time, living with the healer can be lonely".

"I will consider it", I whisper in a low voice but loud enough for her to hear.

"Good, when you do come don't forget to look for me, there is only one beta female in the pack", she said proudly before standing up to leave.

I heaved a sigh of relief at her retrieving back, though she seems like a nice person but chatty, turning my gaze back to the sky, I wonder if my father's soul is now settled among the thousands of glittering light as he once told me all dead soul does. "I'm in a shifter pack father", I mouthed at the sky before going back inside the cabin.

"You should consider Anya's offer, about going to the pack's village". "There are lots of maidens your age and you will be able to make new friends and earn others' trust," the healer said the moment I walked inside.

"I will, I said before heading towards my room. That night, I slept off staring out my window, wondering what life in a shifters pack will be like for me. While sets of familiar deep brown eyes haunt my dreams.
