Chapter 4: What's happening?

It's Monday again. My weekend was great, until Brian received a call from whom I don't know, but it completely ruined Brian's mood.
*Flash back.
I went inside our room, when I saw Lia was awake.
"Avery, what happened?" Lia asked me.
I sigh, "I don't know, Brian and I were just walking by the sea shore, then he received a call from someone, then he told me that, wherever I am, he needs to know and he will pick me up for school and even drive me home."
"I think that's a strange call."
"Yeah, I think so."
We hear Brian and James talking.
"James, keep your guard up. You know her, she might hurt them both."
"I know, but how did she get out of there?"
"I don't know either, let's just keep an eye on her."
I looked at Lia.
"Who is she?" Lia asked me.
"I don't know."
"Does it really mean, they are----
"Mafia?!" We said in unison.
*End of flashback
“Avery, Brian’s here.”
“Yes, dad. I’m coming.”
“You need to explain this.” Dad whispered to me.
“Yes, dad, but please trust me about this.”
Brian gets my bag and we go to his car.
At school, Brian took me to my first class, but he didn't know that I followed him.
"Avery, what--" Lia.
"Shh. I am following Brian, I really want to know what's happening."
Then we saw Brian is talking to another girl.
"Who's that girl?!" Lia said.
I just looked at her, "I don't have any idea."
We are eavesdropping on them, but we really can't hear anything. Then, I realize, is this the "SHE" that Brian was talking about to James?
"Lia, do you remember that Brian said to James that "SHE" might hurt them?"
"Yeah, I remember that, so, is this she?"
"Lia, Avery, what are you doing here?"
"James?"
"Uh-huh?"
"Wh-where just going to the pantry. Lia wants some fish crackers, right, Lia?"
"Yes. So, see you later, James."
Lia and I walked away from that scene.
"We're almost caught." Lia said.
I looked back at James and I saw he's talking now to Brian.
"Lia, let's walk faster, Brian already knew that we were here."
"Oh, my."
We walked as fast as we could until we're in the pantry.
I stopped when I felt someone was holding me in my arms.
"What are you doing here, Avery?"
Lia and I are in big trouble.
"Br-Brian, we're just going to buy food. Lia is craving for fish crackers and I want to buy some sweets."
Brian is just staring at me blankly and I know he's angry.
"Why didn't you just ask me or James to buy it?"
"We didn't see you or James either." Lia
"I told you, Ave. You will do what I say, I don't want you to get---"
"To get what? Is there something wrong, Brian?"
"Just, please, do what I say."
Then, the bell rings.
Lunch time. Lia and I were just sitting waiting for our food to come, even this one, they are the one who's doing it for us.
"Avery, what are they up to? I am really confused about this."
"Me too, Brian doesn't tell me anything about this, are we in trouble?"
Then we saw Brian and James coming.
"Thanks." I said.
"James, what is this all about? Even our own food, you are the one who will get it."
"We can't tell you now. Just be patient and obey everything we say."
"Just for now." Brian said and held my hand.
"Oh, sorry." A girl behind me accidentally spilled her coffee on me.
Brian immediately stood up and covered me with his jacket. I was wearing a white sleeves.
"What are you really up to?" Brian said to the girl.
I looked at her and realized that she was the girl that Brian was talking to.
"Brian, I am okay. Lia, come with me."
"Okay."

Brian is already waiting for.me in his car.
"Bye, Lia." I waved, then hopped inside the car.
"Avery. I am really sorry about what happened earlier."
"Why? Is there something wrong about that girl?"
"For now, just do what I say, that girl who spilled coffee on you is Adele."
"Then, who is she to you?"
"That's it for now, just avoid her."

"Why can't I sleep?!"
I was rolling and rolling on my bed, I can't stop thinking who's that girl, Adele.
*Calling Lia.
"Hello, Avery. What's up? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just that I can't sleep."
"Yeah, yeah. I feel you."
"Brian told me that I need to avoid the girl, her name is Adele."
"That girl looked possessive, the way she talked to Brian, I really think that you should avoid her."
"I don't know what to do."
"Just for now, keep your guard up, always."
"Yes, I will do that."
"Now, go to sleep and rest, okay?"
"Yeah, good night."
"Good night."
*Call ended.

It is a usual day at school, Lia and I went to our PE class, volleyball.
"I really hate this class." I said to Lia.
"I know right."
(Whistle)
"Okay, class. We have a new student here."
Lia and I looked at each other and were shocked.
"Hi, I am Adele Cruz. I hope to be friends with you all."
While she's introducing herself, she's staring at me like she wants to eat me.
"Lia, she's staring at me." I am scared, I've never seen a girl like that before." I whispered to Lia.
"Just ignore her."
"Okay, Adele will be joining our class next week, class dismissed."
I walked as fast as I could to the locker room and I didn't notice that Lia wasn't beside me.
"Lia! Where are you?!"
"Looking for her?"
I recoiled when I saw her.
"What do you want?"
"Easy, Avery. I will not hurt you, for now, take this as a threat, stay away from Brian." Then she walked away and my tears started to run down my face.
"Avery! Where are you?!"
"B-brian, I-i am here."
"What happened? Are you okay?"
"I was threatened, she told me to stay away from you." I burst out in tears.
Brian hugged me. "Shh, it will be alright, trust me, I will not let her hurt you."
"Brian, Avery?"
"James, we're here."
James went to us and said, "Adele already made her move. She even talked to Lia and threatened her."
"Wh-where's Lia, is she okay?" I said.
"Yeah, she's outside waiting for you."
Brian helps me to stand up.
As soon as Lia saw me, she hugged me.
"I am sorry, Ave. I shouldn't let you out of my sight, but they are a bunch of mean girls who blocked my way to you and then I saw Adele."
"I am okay, don't worry about me."
"Lia, Avery, let's go, will drive you home." James said.

It was a terrifying and tiring day, I can't stop thinking about Adele, who are you Adele Cruz?
