I sat in the study the morning after the party because the celebration of Vivienne’s promotion still left me feeling proud of everything we had built together. The phone buzzed on the table beside me and I picked it up without thinking much about it since I expected messages from friends who attended the event. When I opened the text my stomach tightened because it came from my ex Elena who I had not heard from in years.
The message read “Roman I saw the news about your engagement and the big family trial. We need to talk because some things from our past could affect your new life with Vivienne. Call me when you can.” I stared at the screen for a moment before I walked to find Vivienne because I knew honesty mattered more than anything after all the twists we had survived.
