WHEN IT ALL BEGAN
Aekira POV
The atmosphere was cool yet radiating with a luminous unpleasant vibes. Everyone seemed depressed. Older women soliloquized and muttered in solace languages. The men waved their head in sadness and children seemed to be kept at a control.
Today was a sadistic day, my sister had just died and her funeral was being prepared. Everyone felt hurt and triggered by her sudden demise. It was a huge blow to the pack and everyone especially my parents. Brinley my sister was everyone's favorite, the pack loved her extravagant aura, her elegance and her smartness. Brinley was exceptionally beautiful than every single girl in the Dark Moon pack. She held a prestige that everyone regarded as power even though she was the daughter of a Beta. And as to that, selection for the mate of the Alpha prince was barred and Brinley was automatically selected as the future Luna and wife to the future Alpha, Alphose.
She was perfection in the eyes of everyone in the pack. No young or older adult ever tried to assault her nor overrule her dominance.
My sister turned 18 today and was going to be bestowed as the mate to the young Alpha. The Alpha king, Damonikai loved my sister and had personally announced her to be the Luna for his son. No one dared to hurt my sister else they incur the wrath of Alpha king Daemonikai.
My sister had always had uncontrollable feelings for Alphose, she couldn't wait to be made his future wife. She would frown and become angry if she sees any female beside him. Brinley attitude towards Alphose was what one would tag as 'UNCONTROLLABLE OBSESSION'.
Sometimes she left our home to see the Alpha's son, and occasionally she had slept with him many times even when the pack had prohibited affection and s*x at a young age and they were yet to find out if they were mates, as usual, exceptions were made when it involved Brinley. I was sixteen and Brinley was my older sister but her languish lifestyle bothered me a lot. I have tried to make her see reasons to not sleep with Alphose but it always ended up as jealousy- my parents would counter that I was jealous of my sister because she was more loved in the pack.
I wasn't surprised, they were right, they would usually take my sister's side, my sister held no wrong or fault in their eyes, she was the best thing that had happened to them while I was just a normal kid who happened to be also born in the same womb as her. Sometimes, I had wished I wasn't born as the daughter of the Beta, I wished I was just a normal random girl or even an Omega would be better. That way, I wouldn't have to experience all these and live on my own.
Just as it had been, what we wished for never comes to reality, just the opposite usually happened. Few times, I had met the Alpha's son when he had visited my sister, truthfully he was one enchanting and strikingly handsome man and I instantly understood why Brinley was insanely into him yet, my principled counter against sleeping with him still stood firm. Alphose was known both in the pack and beyond as the most seductive male and heart wrecker amongst the females. His flirtatious life couldn't be understated and as the only heir to the throne, he had priviledges that most Alpha heir's lacked. He could take as many woman as he wants even if the she-wolf was mated. Once he was determined to get something, he wouldn't relent rather push forward towards it. He was the type that females couldn't resist, possessing unearthly agility and power. His strength was limitless and just like his father, his escapades for murdering a thousand and one pack in a swift has been a mystery to the pack. He possessed gruesome fierceness that brought enemies to their knees. Unlike other neighbouring pack Alpha's, Alphose was unusually unique.
"Your sister looks exactly like you". He had said to Brinley one morning when he visited and Brinley had rolled her eyes. "No she's not, I look totally different from her, do you mean she's as pretty as I am?". She sneered at the young Alpha who apologized and laughed it off.
Honestly, I felt bad that day and refused talking to anyone as my sister had predominantly made fun of me throughout the breakfast morning. I had left the dining and rushed back to my room.
No doubt, I was angry and felt quite belittled that day yet in spite of all these, I still loved her as my older sister.
Now, today being her 18th birthday, when everyone was expecting her shift, she died.
I looked around the hall, earlier it was bustling with an energetic and lively enthusiasm. The couriers and maids were running around in the morning trying to decorate the hall and make it fashionable. Men of high ranks already started trooping into the hall. One would think if a banquet was being held by the king but no, it was just all for my sister's eighteenth birthday.
I checked the list of items my mother had ordered the maids to get. Amongst them was the rare ancestry Jade usually worn by females once they get married to prove loyalty, worthiness and innocence. The Jade was a costly item that could be sold for, at the least two million dollars if taken to the black market.
My parents had always given Brinley the best; shoes, clothes, hair pins and love. While I was the invincible loner always locked up in her room. At one corner of the hall, my father's laughter echoed, he looked extremely happy chatting with his friends and other men of high ranks including the Gamma.
But all these joyful moments turned into sheer horror when my sister couldn't wake up from her sleep this morning. The Royal doctor had been sent for quickly and he confirmed her dead. Ear-splitting cries had filled the whole hall as everyone was frozen into a state of shock.
What just happened?
