3 YEARS LATER
Haven couldn't believe what was happening on this special day of hers. She was turning twenty four as well as her other sisters. She was part of triplets and thanks to that she was compared to them all the time. Haven was different, she wasn't feminine and she hated school more than anything else. When her sisters were busy with ballet, she was learning how to fight and to be strong. It was very difficult for her when she was young and in the end she just became a tom boy.
She watched as she was seated in one of the sofas, as her other sister Heart was busy parading her boyfriend. From what she know, Heart and Will had been dating for six months. They met suspiciously but she didn't care, it wasn't her life. She wanted the night to waste away so that she can return to her own business.
"Well, well, well. I didn't know my sister was here,' Heart mocked her and she just ignored her.
"Don't you have a place to be?"
"I just want to take a good look at you sis. You are twenty four but there is nothing to show," Heart did it again and she sighed.
If it was possible for her to beat her sister, she could but she was afraid that she would end up killing her in the process. So she took a deep breath to relax herself before looking at Heart.
"I am not in a good mood, so i will advice you to leave me alone before i do something to that pretty face of yours,' she threatened Heart with a smile.
Haven knew how much her sisters loved their appearances which was the reason why they were in the entertainment industry. If they knew that they owe her for their huge success, they would be kneeling down and kowtowing to her like some goddess.
Heart didn't disappoint her before leaving her alone. She needed some air, so she left the sofa and went outside. She needed a smoke but the problem was that she forgot her pack back at her mansion. So what was she going to do? She was wondering what she should do when she appeared.
She had a tendency of appearing whenever she was in trouble. She was very good at her job, she had noticed over the past few years.
"I guess you are looking for this!"
"Indeed I am. You just saved a life," Haven said taking the cigarette.
"At your service."
"It's a great night, why don't you go and mingle inside? You never know, a guy might sweep you off your feet."
"It's not the right time yet."
"Let me give you some advice Lee, you need to have some fun whilst you can. Just look at me, I can't have it all thanks to that prophecy. What you have is a job and your boss wants you to rest and have some fun. If you disobey me then i will punish you to the fullest extent and i doubt that you will take it," she said looking at her seriously.
"I will do that after i give the shadow guards some instructions."
"That's okay and while you are it, leave the box with me. I need a lot of this if i am going to survive the night," she said and took the box from Leena her chief shadow guard.
Leena disappeared the same way she arrived. Whoever trained the was a professional.
After a smoke she returned back inside just in time for the cutting of the cake. She walked straight to the front and saw the look her mother gave her and she just smiled at her.
Haven, Heart and Helen hold the knife firmly and cut the cake deep and it was done. She was free to escape this party now. She was about to leave when Heart stood in front of everyone with Will. What was she going to say now?
"Thank you all for coming to this special day. I want to make a special announcement tonight. Me and Will are getting married. The engagement party will be in two weeks and you are all invited,' Heart said cheerfully.
Everyone clapped full of joy and excitement. Her parents were happy and so was she. She was born in a family of five. Two boys and three girls. Her brothers were already married and now Heart will be the first to go among the girls.
Haven walked towards her parents and soured the mood.
"What do you want?" he asked her coldly but she was used to it.
"I am leaving," she told him without beating around the bush.
"You can't leave. It's your birthday too."
"I played my part and since we aren't in the mood to fight, i will leave first. If anyone asks just tell them work came up," she said.
"What work? Do you even have a job?" her mother asked her with sarcasm.
"I have a job mother and i am not in the mood to fight with you. So please excuse me, i will see you another day," Haven said and left.
Since there were a lot of people including reporters, she knew her mother was not going to make a huge fuss. She smiled walking towards the door and heard her car engine. Her ride had arrived. How did she get all these quick and loyal stuff?
By the time she got out of the house, the Bentley sedan was roaring outside. Her driver Tom opened the door for her and she settled down
"Where should i take you Viper?"
"Take me to the club. I need a drink. Where is my assistant?" Haven asked.
"You gave her the night off. Have you forgotten?"
"Indeed i have. Call her and tell her to meet me at the club if she still wants her job in thirty minutes," Haven said and closed her eyes.
Gina had been working for Haven White aka Viper for less than a year now. Apparently her boss couldn't keep her assistants for too long. She either fired them or they quit on their own. She was very demanding and it was hard to get some sleep.
She was shocked when her boss gave her an early night shift off. It was her birthday but she had heard rumors about how much she loathed the parties. So unlike her predecessors she didn't sleep when she was supposed to but ate and waited patiently for her phone to ring. And when it rang, she answered quickly.
'Tom!'
'Thirty minutes at the club.'
'Thank you,' she said and hung up.
She quickly took her bag and her car keys and left her apartment.
When jobs were scarce and difficult to find, Gina still got lucky and landed a job with one of the vicious women she had ever met. Her boss was so young and yet she ran a very huge organization which a few people knew. She was probably the richest person and yet it was a secret.
Gina didn't go to those Ivy League Universities or any famous ones but she went to a local college and majored in secretarial studies. She didn't stay for two months seeking employment.
It was after a month of dropping CVs, working at a café when she first met Haven. To any ordinary person Haven was just Haven and to those who knew better she was a White, one of the influential families in the city and country. Because she studied these families she knew exactly who she was and was very happy when she saw her in the café she worked in. So when Haven took her order Gina bought it for her.
'I don't like handouts,' Haven said to her.
'You are my idol,' Gina couldn't help herself but blush.
Gina still remembered the look on Haven's face. She looked shocked so Gina explained further.
'You followed your heart and did everything you wanted despite of what your family thought and how the media perceived you.'
She saw Haven's face loosening before she smiled at her.
'You have ways with words Gina,' she said as she looked at her name tag.
'Thank you.'
'So Gina are you a student or what?'
'I graduated a month ago and still looking for a job,' she said honestly.
'Was this your plan al along, to find something from me?'
'No, i was happy to see you. I never thought i would be able to do in real life.'
'That's sweet music to my ears. So what were you doing at school?'
'Secretarial studies,' she answered her.
'That's good. Come to this place at 8 p.m. and i will see what i can do for you,' Haven said and left the café.
Gina was very happy that she couldn't wait to go. She realized later that it was a club. She had never went to a club before. When she arrived she showed her card to the doorman and he let her through. She was taken to the V.I.P's side where she saw Haven seated with a bunch of girls and she could tell they were were all flirting with her. Was Haven a lesbian?
'You came,' she said smiling and offered her seat.
'Thank you,' she said as she sat down. She wondered if Haven had brought her here so that she could be a call girl. It would be very devastating.
Haven sent all the girls away and it was just the two of them.
'Is this your first time in a club?'
'Yes, it is.'
'Now tell me about yourself . Don't leave anything out.'
Gina had learnt about one thing, sometimes you need to interpret a question as simple as possible. So she did exactly that and began to talk about herself.
'Interesting narration,' Haven said as she lit a cigarette.
Gina was shocked because she didn't take Haven for a smoker.
'I will give you a job but not the one you are looking for now. This club needs another server. Work yourself up and if you earn it, you will see places.'
That is what Haven told her before she began her new job at the club. It was tiring but she kept on. The salary was good and she was not going to spoil the opportunity. Thanks to her quick wits she began to connect the dots and when she realized what she had found out she was shocked. Haven was impressed, how she knew about it she never asked.
After another month she was promoted and she became an assistant to other secretaries. Somehow Haven's assistant got fired and she was given the job and knew just how much tiring the job was. Now she understood why she had to work in the club first.
Gina arrived at the club, gave the valet her car before she entered the club and went to Haven's usual spot. She had fifteen more minutes to spare before her boss arrives.
Haven own the club which was always full every day. Sometimes she felt bad about how the business was being rub but one had to be ruthless sometimes. She learnt that the hard way.
Two months after she started working for Haven as her assistant she got attacked, it was the scariest moment ever. She thought she was going to die but a familiar face showed up. She had seen that face in the club mostly dancing. She watched as the girl s***h the man's throat with a dagger. It was the first time she witnessed someone being ruthlessly killed like that.
There was no police involved and the body vanished into thin air. Because she was scared for her life, she bought a gun and Haven still found out. In the end Haven made her get defense lessons where she ended up being a soldier. She was now capable of defending herself from anything, which was also the reason why she kept her small pushing daggers with her everywhere she goes.
'What should i bring you?' the bartender asked her.
'Just some water,' she said.
Drinking at the job was something she vowed never to do especially after she embarrassed herself in front of everyone and couldn't get her job done the other night.
It didn't take long before her glass of water came and she took a sip and put the glass down.
'Please bring the usual whisky, she will be here any minute,' Gina told the bartender.
She watched as the bartender hurriedly left and came back a few minutes later with Haven's drink. All she was doing now was to wait for her boss to arrive and listen to what was on her mind.
