Alpha Scuffle

Josh’s pov “Laney McLaughlin, I love you and have for a very long time. Will you be my wife?” I asked Laney. She is standing there in shock. I decided I didn’t want to wait anymore; she had to be my mate, even if my wolf couldn’t verify it. After her accident years ago, her wolf just never came back. I don’t care though; I love her and accept her, wolf or not. No man was going to take her from me, not even Alpha Sean. I did not care if he was The Head Alpha of our State, Laney is mine. I saw how he growled and acted around her, and tonight I would make sure Laney was my mate, not his. It felt like an eternity waiting on her to answer. “Yes, Josh and I will Marry You!” Laney suddenly said.  Those words made me the happiest man alive. I picked her up and swung her around. I’m so happy! I knew everyone wanted me to wait to make sure, But I didn’t want to, not when another man could take her from me. After today, it’s determined. We are going to mate. It elates my wolf and me. He loves her too. Laney's POV   He laid me on the bed and began kissing me. I can’t believe it. I’m engaged!  His lips trailed down my body, as he reached under my shirt, rubbing his hands on my stomach, “Laney, I can’t help it anymore, please I want to make love to you,” Josh whispered. Don’t do it, I heard in my head. That damn voice again. s**t, not right now. I just want to enjoy this, not hear a voice in my head making me feel crazy. I pushed the voice away and wrapped my legs around him. I pulled him closer, letting him Know I’m ready. He took off my shirt and unsnapped my bra. His eyes grazed over my body. “Oh, Laney, you are so beautiful,” he said as he planted kisses on me. Suddenly the door busted up, “Get the f**k off her now!” a strong, sexy voice growled. Someone yanked Josh off me, and I heard a thud as he hit the wall. My parents stood in the doorway. I immediately covered myself in embarrassment. My Mom rushed over and handed me my clothes. “Get dressed now,” She said as she slammed the door shut, stopping anyone else from entering. I fumbled under the blanket with my bra and shirt and got it on as quickly as I could. I could hear stuff breaking in rapid succession. “She’s mine!” I heard Josh yell. I turned towards his voice, and that’s when I noticed. It’s Sean he’s fighting with. What The hell? “What is going on?” I shouted at them. “Go to him now!” I heard in my head.  To who?  “To our mate, before he kills him,” the voice replied in desperation. “Stop them now, Laney,” My Mother said. I am so confused.  Phil is trying to reign them In, but It didn’t work. How am I supposed to stop them? Everyone was yelling at once. “You know the punishment Philip as does your son, he must want to die!” Sean yelled at Philip as he held Josh up by the throat, his eyes no longer Green but Black and filled with rage. “Just go to him, dammit!” I heard in my head.  I ran up to Sean and yelled, “put him down,” he only stared at me as his body trembled,“I won’t let you hurt my fiancee,” I said pleadingly to Sean. “Your Fiancée?” I heard everyone exclaim at once. “Oh, Joshua, what have you done?” Philip said sadly. Josh saw the distraction and got free then slammed Sean into the dresser breaking It. Wood is flying everywhere. He charges angrily at Sean. “Josh, no!” I screamed as I pushed him out of the way and ran to Sean’s side. Sean didn’t even seem fazed as he stood up with a look that frightened me. “Our Man Is strong.” I heard In my head again. “Get the f**k out of my head!” I yelled angrily.  I guess I must have said it out loud because everybody stared at me.  My mother was crying hysterically while my Dad held her. Philip and Josh were shaking. Josh had blood all over him. Sean grabbed me and pulled me to him, making me feel like I was going to collapse from his touch. Shocks radiated throughout my body. “Oh, Honey, you got your wolf,” My Mother, said “My wolf?” I asked, confused. “I will explain later. We are leaving now,” Sean said. “You are not going nowhere with my mate,” Josh said as he moved in closer to us. Sean pushed me behind him and said, “You dare speak to me after what you did, knowing your life is in my hand’s pup?” “I’m not afraid of you!” Josh shouted as he moved closer, now directly in front of Sean, “Clearly, she chose me as my ring is on her finger,” he added. “Look, everybody, just calm down. She doesn’t even know what’s going on. Let’s relax, and give her some time,” My dad stepped between them. “I am positive she’s mine, but you’re right,” Sean said to my dad. “But you listen, good pup. Keep your hands off of her, or I will kill you!” Sean roared at Josh, as Philip pulled Josh out of the room. Sean rubbed my shoulders, and I relaxed. “It’s going to be okay, Laney. I’m In no rush. We can talk later,” Sean said before he walked out the door. “Laney, maybe we should go home and talk.” My mother said. As I looked around, I noticed everyone left but my parents. The room looked like a tornado hit it. There were pieces of wood scattered all around from the broken dresser. The wall by the door now had a huge hole in it. The rose petals that once lay on the bed looked like crushed potpourri. I looked down at my finger where my diamond engagement ring now sat, and sighed. How could all this happen so fast? The happiness I felt a while ago now gone, and all it left me with was confusion and anger. Now the only ones left to explain anything are my parents. I shook my head as I looked towards my parents. My father’s face looked angry, yet emotional. I’m sure that was because he nearly caught me having s*x. My mother looked like an emotional mess. She looked like she either wanted to hug me or cry. I suspect both. “I don’t want to go home. I just need to clear my head and talk with my friends,” I answered them back finally. They exchanged looks as if they were trying to decide if that was okay. “Fine honey, I know so much has happened, and you are no doubt overwhelmed. We will give you space to figure this out,” My mother said as my father wrapped his arms around her waist.  That was all they needed to say. I set off down the steps, determined to find Rain. Out of all the girls, I was closest to her. We had been best friends since she moved here in third grade. As I came into the kitchen, I could see Mrs. Maurice pulling stuff out of the oven. Normally I would offer her help, but not today. I had too much on my mind, and the one person who always listened to me is Rain.  I slid open the patio doors and went outside. There were tents set up everywhere, music blasting, and people everywhere. I took off towards the pool. Usually, most of the High School crowd gathered there. As I got closer, I could see Rain, but she wasn’t alone, so I took out my phone and sent her a text telling her to meet me by the rock, alone.  I didn’t feel like dealing with anyone else right now. Once I saw her reading her text, I took off towards our meeting spot. When I entered the clearing near the creek, I took off my heels and ran the rest of the way. There were a few kids nearby skipping rocks. When Rain got there, she told them she thought the food is ready. They took off running back towards the house, leaving Rain and me alone. I don’t even know what I wanted to say. There’s so much going on. We sat in silence for a moment before Rain said, “I see you have a huge rock on your finger. Did you get engaged?” She had a serious, but cautious look in her eyes. That was what was so great about Rain. She knew me so well. Had this been under different circumstances, she would have been excited and planning my whole wedding. She could tell I’m uneasy, and she approached it that way with me, which I was glad for. “Yep. That was when all s**t hit the fan.” I said as I threw random pebbles into the water. “Laney, you don’t sound very excited about this. What happened?” She asked as she joined me in throwing pebbles in the water. So I told her everything. I told her about our “guest” Sean and that I thought he was hot, and about the weird shocks I felt when he touched me, and my engagement. Lastly, I tell her how my parents and Sean interrupted me almost losing my virginity. She sat quietly and just listened to me.  “Laney, this may sound like a weird question, but during all this, was there ever a voice in your head telling you what to do?” She asked me cautiously.  Maybe someone already told her about my outburst in Josh’s room. Why would she ask that? It was true, but I didn’t know if I should tell her that.  I searched her eyes to see if she was serious. I said, “yes. I didn’t mention it before because I didn’t want to sound crazy,” “You’re not crazy, Laney,” she said, motioning me to sit down on the blanket she brought, “What did the voice say?” I thought back and tried to remember. As a child, I sometimes used to hear the voice as well, but only a few times. It had been so many years; I forgot all about it until now. But for the last few days, it was somehow back, “Well, I remember hearing it when Josh and I were about to have... s*x, and it said, don’t do it. Honestly, though Rain, I was so nervous. It was probably just my self-conscience telling me to wait,” I said, a little embarrassed. “Did you hear it anymore after that, like when they were fighting?” Rain asked me. “Yes,” I confusingly replied. “And?” She said “Well, she told me to go to him before someone got hurt. When I asked who, she said our mate,” I answered her, but then my mother’s comment came back to me again when she said I got my wolf.  There was no way I was telling Rain that, though. I am sure she would think I’m crazy. I’m not convinced at this point that I’m not. “Laney, listen. I’m trying to help you, and I need to know who did you go to?” She carefully asked me. I thought back on all that happened, it was so confusing, then said, “neither, but I told Sean to put down my fiancée,” She nodded her head but looked confused, “Did he put him down?” I once again thought back, and then I remembered I had approached Sean, “Wait, I ran up to Sean and told him to put down my fiancée. I caught him off guard by my interruption, so Josh freed himself from Sean. Josh went after Sean, slamming him against the dresser. I pushed Josh to the side to stop them from fighting and then ran to Sean. He was fine, though. Josh’s face is bloody,” “Okay,” she nodded as she looked in thought.  I then remembered Sean’s words before he left for Josh. He said he would kill him. I jumped up fast and said, “Sean is going to kill Josh!” Then I took off running back towards the house. I could hear Rain yelling behind me to wait up. I could not believe I forgot that with all the confusion. I had to see if he was okay. As I made it by the pool, I looked around for Josh frantically. I didn’t see him anywhere. However, I saw Sean standing near the speakers with Cassie. That figures, she could resist no man, especially the good-looking ones. As soon as Sean saw my face, he walked towards me. Cassie just stood there with her mouth agape. I was sure she was in some interesting conversation, and he just left her standing there talking to herself. “Laney is everything okay? You look upset?” he asked as he gently put his hand on my arm. Immediately, the shocks riveted through my body, making me feel dizzy. I pulled myself together and asked, “Where is Josh?” His eyebrows furrowed, and his face went from concern to shock, “I believe he is talking with your father and his,” he said. I sighed in relief and he noticed because he asked, “Did you think he was dead?” “Well, you threatened him,” I said as I crossed my hands over. He would not intimidate me. “Laney love, that was not a threat, but a promise.” He whispered as he got closer to me. I noticed Rain was now standing next to me. Cassie was standing behind Sean, no doubt listening. “You better just keep your hands off of him,” I said as I moved in closer, showing him he did not scare me. We were so close I could feel his breath on my face. He chuckled but maintained his position, “He broke many rules, punishable by death. I suggest you stop defending him unless, of course, you want me to punish him now,” He said icily.  His eyes were black, and I could see the rage behind them. I gasped and backed up. How did his eyes do that? I sure wasn’t going to stick around to find out. I took off running. “You’re a f*****g Jackass! You need to control yourself, you let your wolf take over,” I heard Rain telling Sean in the distance. I just didn’t care. I had enough.
