AURORA’S POV “Good afternoon lovely citizens it’s a beautiful day don’t you all agree..” I hear my dad speak from the podium at another rally. This is literally the third one this week and if I attend the next one I might as well be in a coffin. “Girl I can’t believe you are going to miss the midnight coast yacht gala. We’ve planned on going together since Last week you know all the hot shots are going to be there and a little bird told me Adrian is going to be there..” Val giggles loudly I could swear the whole congregation heard her. Valentina Russo is my best friend since forever and we had planned to attend the hottest party this summer but guess what I’m stuck here trying to convince people to vote for my dad. I had tried escaping many times but Mom had pleaded to wait till the end this time so I have no other option. I didn’t know Dad had planned for fireworks to be popped and why are they bad at timing I mean he was literally in the moment of delivering a speech to people. The interesting thing is I was still not seeing them pop in the sky but the popping sound kept on increasing that is when it dawned on me that it wasn’t fireworks at all those were gunshots being fired and I could see everyone running to save themselves Was this my end? I didn’t even get to jump into the ocean from a cliff. I could hear mumbling from my phone clearly Val was trying to say something but I couldn’t place a word she said I crouched and crawled to my mom who was already in tears reciting her Hail Marys. The gunshots continued. Fuck.. Dad is down there I tried to look down to see if Dad was fine or dead but before I could I heard Lucas, our head guard shouting for us to come and that Dad’s in the car waiting for us. We rushed and maneuvered our way through the people some already dead others badly battered while others ran desperately for their lives. 2 hours later.. “Yes thank you very much for agreeing to do this for me. It means a lot thanks Cross” Dad said finally hanging up the phone. “I managed to get the best security agency to up our security because I fear it’s not as tight as I thought. We’d have to be extra careful because the opposition is going to do everything they can to win this election and I won’t allow anything to happen to you both trust me” he says pacing up and down as I try to refresh my SHEIN cart for the hundredth time. “So umm.. in the absence of anything I would be going up to my room I have a party to attend this evening “ I say rising from my feet. “You are not leaving this house until the agency gets here. I was just about coming over to your house” “Yes, we’re all perfectly fine but unfortunately I can’t make it to the gala because we’re apparently supposed to tighten security and I’m not allowed out until they arrive” A fist of laughter hits my ear from the other side of the telephone” wait what are you like 12 or something I can’t believe you’re being grounded I wish there was a way you could sneak out and come because this party would be lit” “ Val you’re a genius..see you at 9 pm” I reply grinning ear to ear
