Chapter Four Aileen carried out her own investigation at the other end of the room. Using a tissue from the pack she carried in her satchel, Aileen moved a few cardboard boxes and newspapers away. She swore she saw a centipede or two crawling on them. A fungus laden bread followed another reeking take-away box before Aileen found four notebooks. Curious, she picked them up and placed them on the rickety sofa. She dug around some more, but when her stomach roiled from the stench, she quickly abandoned her search and sat down on the sofa. Taking a small sip of water from the bottle she carried, Aileen set to work. She leafed through the notebooks. Unlike her, Marley had a poor hand. It was crooked and almost illegible.
