A World Apart: The Chronicles of Delilah Faylinn

  Night after night Lovell continued his regiment of nightmares. At the end of the nightmares he noticed an unfamiliar glow and then he would wake to find a new day. He paid no attention to the glow for he could not understand its meaning when he awoke. Every night he tried to walk towards the glow but he could never seem to get any closer to it, he simply dismissed the fact that he saw it and just related it to his regular sequence of nightmares. One night while Lovell was asleep and subconsciously entertaining his constant nightmares, when something began speaking to him from the dark recesses of his mind. The voice started out as a whisper at first as he tried to make out what the voice was saying. He had just come to the end of his last and worst nightmare when the glow he had been seeing before immediately presented itself to him. This for him was unfamiliar territory. The voice he was hearing continued to get louder as if it was walking nearer to him. As the voice got louder he was able to finally make out what it was saying. The voice was calling to him, it was actually calling his name! The voice seemed familiar and to be looking for him. In his anxiety he chose to finally answer…. 

(Lovell) Delilah is that you? 

(Delilah) Lovell, Lovell where are you?! 

(Lovell) I am here Delilah, can you hear me? 

(Delilah) I can hear you but I cannot see you!

(Lovell) I am here I cannot see you either although you sound like you are standing right in front of me! 

(Delilah) Lovell I am scared! 

(Lovell) How is this happening? Are you doing this? Is this real? 

(Delilah) I feel so weak, Lovell what is happening to me? 

(Lovell) It’s the Elemental it is still draining you even while you sleep. 

(Delilah) The room you have my body in, it’s full of light spirits isn’t it? 

(Lovell) Yes, how did you know? You are still somewhat conscious of everything that is going on aren’t you?! 

(Delilah) I can hear now yes, a lot better now than I did before. I think I am absorbing some of their energy. I just cannot move or even open my eyes! 

(Lovell) Delilah, I will not lie to you… I am terrified. I have no clue as to how to destroy the Dark Empress! I need your help! 

(Delilah) That is why I have come, I figured you needed me and I just had to find some way to communicate with you. 

(Lovell) Do you know something, have you found an answer?! 

(Delilah) I think I have! 

(Lovell) Tell me what it is, I will try anything! 

(Delilah) I will tell you but you have to promise me something first! 

(Lovell) Anything you ask of me, I promise, what is it?! 

(Delilah) If it fails you will destroy that mirror, even if it means destroying me. 

(Lovell) Absolutely not, that is out of the question, I will think of something else! Don’t you realize you are the very last Faylinn? What you ask me to do is impulsive! It’s absurd! 

(Delilah) Seeing as how I will die anyway if it wins, you will have no choice!

(Lovell) I will not promise you that, I will do anything but that! 

(Delilah) Lovell, you have to find a way to make us two separate beings. Right now we are one. 

(Lovell) What do you think I have been trying to do in all this time?! 

(Delilah) You have been trying to find a way to destroy “it”, not how to separate us. I must go now, Lovell. You are about to wake up and will therefore break the connection. I know you can do it, you will find a way. 

 (Lovell) As long as I sleep will you be able to come back to me again? 

(Delilah) I do not know, it took me to absorb a lot of energy just to come here tonight. Tell the spirits I said thanks by the way. 

    Lovell jumped straight up out of bed as if a bolt of electricity had just shot up his back. He paced back and forth in his room trying to make sense of the dream he just had. Was it real? He thought to himself. Of course it was real! Delilah knew exactly what was going on and was trying to help him find an answer. How could he separate them? Was it even possible? With everything he had in him he ran straight back to the secret chamber to talk with the spirits again. He opened the book of the eldest spirit and when he told them what had just happened and what Delilah had managed to do, it left them in complete awe. They could not believe that someone so young was capable of such a miraculous thing. 

(Spirit) You say she absorbed energy from all of us here? 

(Lovell) Yes she did, she said to tell you guys thanks by the way. 

(Spirit) We have all been busy going in and out of all our chronicles trying to find a way to help you, so it may have been very possible for her to do that! That is astounding my boy! What else did she tell you? 

(Lovell) That’s what I came to talk to you about. She said that I must find a way to separate the two of them because they are one. 

(Spirit) That is what we have been trying to do, I thought you said she was listening! 

(Lovell) She pretty much said we are going the wrong way about it, as we are only looking to destroy the Elemental! 

(Spirit) Is that not one in the same? If we destroy the elemental the two of them will be separated! 

(Lovell) I guess she is saying that we have to separate the two of them in order to destroy the elemental. 

(Spirit) Why that does not make any sense, boy! Tell me word for word exactly what she said, maybe you have interpreted wrong. 

(Lovell) She said that I have to find a way to separate them into two separate beings, because right now they are one. 

(Spirit) Well that’s it my boy, that is completely different from what you said before! 

(Lovell) How is that different? 

(Spirit) You said to simply separate them before not make them two separate beings! 

(Lovell) Oh, I get it now. I think. 

(Spirit) We cannot destroy the elemental because it is not a physical being. That mirror is the connection between the two. It is the one variable that remains constant in every instance that it has surfaced. The mirror is how it communicated with the host when it was not in complete control of them. 

(Lovell) I do not get it, are you saying that I should destroy the mirror? Because that is what Delilah tried to make me promise her to do and I will not do it! 

(Spirit) I do not know how else she could have possibly meant it, especially if she actually told you to do it. We have never thought to destroy the mirror before. I do not think we have even realized that it is the same exact mirror present in each reoccurrence! 

(Lovell) I must speak with Delilah again! That could not be what she meant, I have to get her to tell me more! 

(Spirit) Well what are your orders, boy?! What will you have us do? 

(Lovell) She will need to absorb more energy, all of you need to stay out of your books long enough for her to visit me again. I am sure she is listening and will actively try to help herself. 

    The eldest spirit called all of the remaining spirits out of their books and they all hovered over Delilah’s body with the hope that she would be able to get enough of what she needed to get through to Lovell just one more time. Lovell took the rest of the day to get his affairs in order. He sent word to the guards to continue to be patient with him and assured them that he was close to an answer. A new sense of hope had once again filled the halls of the mansion, so much so that it brought attention to the Dark Empress waiting patiently within her mirror. The Elemental searched through the halls of the mansion until she had finally found Lovell, for he only went to the main library now to gain entrance to the secret library. The Elemental could no longer corner him in that room so when it found him again. It decided to kick things up a notch. This time when the Elemental found him he was in his room but instead of speaking through the walls, it crept under the door and into his room in the form of a gas like substance. The gas began to choke him on contact and made it very hard for him to breathe. 

(Dark Empress) So you think you have come close to an answer, son of Radagast?! 

    As he struggled to take in air he managed to get several sentences out. 

(Lovell) Yes, so enjoy your remaining moments because they are about to end. 

(Dark Empress) Don’t threaten me, I told you I can destroy you at any moment! 

(Lovell) So why haven’t you done it yet what are you waiting for! 

(Dark Empress) I want you to bring me Delilah and I want you to watch me win! 

(Lovell) You will not win! 

    Lovell figured he had had just about enough of it punishing him so he attempted to protect himself by putting himself in another fire shield, only to find that he had set of an explosion that left the entire room engulfed in flames. The Elemental shrieked with laughter. Lovell had knocked himself out from the blast and fell unconsciously onto the floor as the flames grew around him. 

(Dark Empress) Why do you think I came to you in the form of gas? You are such a stupid boy! I do not know why I waste my time with you! I mean honestly, how you could ever think you were a match for me! Lights out lover boy! Ha Ha Ha! 

    The voice of the Elemental left Lovell and with the smoke and flames growing from beneath the door the guards and staff came to his rescue. The staff carried him out of the room and transferred him to another one close by while the guards put the flames out. The staff placed Lovell into a bed and tended to his wounds to help him recover, all the while his mind had drifted someplace else. 

(Delilah) Lovell, get up Lovell! 

(Lovell) Delilah, you came back! I can see you this time! 

(Delilah) Those spirits sure do mean business huh?! 

(Lovell) I need you to tell me exactly what I need to do to help you! 

(Delilah) We must become two Lovell, you have to separate us! 

(Lovell) How do I do that? 

(Delilah) Think Lovell, think! When was the only time it was a physical being? 

(Lovell) When you were in the mirror and it was out…. Wait a minute I am not letting you get back into that mirror! 

(Delilah) I am not asking you to do that but how would we be separated?  

(Lovell) You would be separated if the both of you were outside of the mirror at the same time! 

(Delilah) You’re waking up again, I have to go… see you soon ok! 

(Lovell) But wait! If I somehow manage to get the two of you out of the mirror at the same time are you strong enough to fight the her! 

(Delilah) I will have no choice now will I, besides you will be there right? 

(Lovell) You bet I will be!

     Lovell once again jumped up out of bed but this time barely able to grasp his surroundings. 

(Maids) Lay back down, Master Radagast! You took quite a blow back there! 

(Lovell) We have no time for this, I must leave at once! 

(Maids) Where are you going this time of night? You have been unconscious for hours! 

(Lovell) I have to go and do what I must, don’t worry about me. I will be fine just trust me! 

    Just like the time before, Lovell took off to the secret library and made sure that the house staff did not follow him. He knew they were worried about his current state, he could barely walk straight. As soon as Lovell entered the room all of the spirits hovering over Delilah looked straight up at him. Once again the eldest took the platform. 

(Spirit) Did it work, my boy? Did you see her? Why are your clothes burned?! 

(Lovell) Yes it worked and yes I saw her, and my clothes are burned because I had a visit from the Elemental. 

(Spirit) I thought you said it was trapped in the mirror! 

(Lovell) It is, but it does not stop it from punishing and torturing me for amusement! 

(Spirit) Well out with it, what did she say?! 

(Lovell) She said I need to get them both out of the mirror at the same time. 

(Spirit) Why of course that’s it, we were fools to think she meant to destroy the mirror or maybe we destroy it after they are both out? 

(Lovell) Wow, I cannot believe that I hadn’t thought of that I was thinking we would just immediately attack the Elemental and destroy it. 

(Spirit) It is okay boy we understand your current state is not on the up and up! One problem still remains though, how will you get it out of the mirror? 

(Lovell) The answer just came to me… I will have to bait the elemental! It thinks very highly of itself! I am pretty sure that is how Delilah got it into the mirror in the first place.

(Spirit) Well then, it seems you have it figured out now! You don’t need us anymore! But please know that we will always be here for you, visit us any time! Best of luck to you both! 

    The spirits all disappeared back into their respective chronicles as Lovell whispered to Delilah that it was time to go back to the room in which the Dark Empress was waiting for her. As if to understand exactly what Lovell needed her to do she began to float herself out of the secret room, out of the main library and through the corridor as Lovell followed now fully conscious right beside her. Some of the house staff and guards noticed Lovell and Delilah and began to follow. 

(Guards) Have you figured it out Master Radagast?! Is it time?! 

(Lovell) Yes, it is time my friends. It is all or nothing now. 

(Guards) What will you have us do Master, just speak it and it will be done! 

(Lovell) Gather everyone who can spare a hand. We have to protect Delilah at all costs do you understand what I mean by all costs?!

(Guards) We understand, we are willing to risk our lives to get this evil out of our lands! 

(Lovell) Thank you my brethren, see you on the other side.

(Maids) We are willing to help too, Master Radagast although all of us house staff are non-magical in nature! 

(Lovell) Good to know, we must all do this together, I have no idea what lies ahead. 

    As everyone began to prepare for the worst not knowing at all of what to expect or what was to become of them, it seemed as if the walls of the house began to creak and moan as if to expect the impending disaster that awaited it. It went without having to be said that everyone walked in an eerie silence, trying not to call too much attention to themselves as they were pretty sure that the Dark Empress was sensitive enough to pick up on all the loud commotion and realize that they were coming for her. With some success they were able to approach the door of the room in which the Dark Empress continued to wait rather impatiently for Delilah. Lovell signaled for the door guards to join the mass and for everyone else to wait outside as he took Delilah inside. 

(Dark Empress) Is that you son of Radagast bringing back Delilah to me?! Open the closet door so that I can see you. Have you tired of me torturing you?!

     Lovell rested Delilah’s body on the bed inside of the room and proceeded to open the closet door in which the mirror of the Elemental was waiting for him. He looked into the mirror to see the Elemental sitting in a chair as if she were very comfortable. 

(Dark Empress) Finally you have come to your senses, child. You have brought me back that which belongs to me. I told you that you would have to bring her back to me, didn’t I? Look at all the time you wasted only to end up doing exactly what you are doing right now! Well come on in, let’s have a chat you and I. I have so missed your company!!!
