Esmeralda POV
I paced around the room, my heels clicking against the tiled floors as I moved. That ungrateful brat, how dare she run away from me after everything I've done for her? It's been two days since she ran away, and my men still aren't able to track her. Does Ava really think she can escape me? The wine glass in my hand trembled as I turned around to face Zara and Zoe and gave them both an icy glare.
"That ungrateful little w***e, its been two goddamned days and my men still can't find her. How the hell did she just disappear without a trace?" My voice cut through the silence like a blade. The twins just stared at me in silence; they both looked like they didn't want to be in the same room as me, and I don't blame them. I'm a ticking bomb waiting to explode.
I held my glass to my lips and downed my wine, The liquor did nothing to quench the fire that was burning inside me; I needed blood. Ava's blood, to be exact, I want to hit her until she bleeds, then she will learn to never run from me again. my eyes flashed with fury as I stared at both my girls.
"Where the hell is Sharon when I need her?" I seethed, they both looked at each other before they turned back to me and shrugged. "She's at Kade's house, they've been getting pretty close since he heard that Ava ran away." Zara said with a smirk, and Zoe snickered.
I clenched my hand into a fist and threw my wine glass against the wall, and watched it shatter into tiny pieces. "That foolish girl has no idea what she's getting herself into." I spun towards the twins with a weary expression. "Now that word has spread around town, and everyone knows that Ava ran away. The clients are going to be looking for other alternatives."
Zoe laughed and stood up from her seat. "Don't worry, Mother. Your little pet will return before your clients start taking their money elsewhere." I felt my anger rise at her words, these silly girls don't understand that now that Ava is gone, the clients will want them. But that's only half of it.
I walked up to Zoe and slapped her hard across the face. Zara screamed and looked at me in shock. I've never hit my girls; I've always unleashed my anger on Ava instead, but I've reached the last straw with them and their foolishness.
"Mother, what the hell are you doing!" Zara shrieked, but I ignored her and kept my eyes fixed on Zoe's red face.
"You stupid girl, don't you understand what this means?" Zoe and Zara stared at me in stunned silence. "It means we are bleeding fast." Zoe swallowed hard and shook her head in disbelief. "We still have some funds-" I cut her off by laughing like a maniac.
"No, we don't. Everything Ava's father left behind is almost gone, because you two vultures couldn't keep your hands out of the accounts. All those yachts, expensive jewelry, and million-dollar penthouses finally caught up to us. Do you think wealth just falls from the sky?" I snapped.
Zoe glared at me. "Ava was your responsibility."
"She was my investment," I screamed. "Do you know how much those elite pigs paid to own her for a night? She was a golden goose wrapped in silk and sin, and now she's f*****g gone."
I laughed bitterly, "And guess what, girls? Without Ava, this little empire of ours collapses. And this estate and the wine company and all those expensive penthouses and yachts will be gone if anyone ever finds out what we did; we won't just be broke, we'll be finished."
Zoe and Zara looked at each other with unease. My eyes narrowed on them as I leaned in. "We need to find her and drag her right back, kicking and screaming if we must. Because if we don't..." I straightened and smoothed out the wrinkles on my designer blouse.
"Then you two better start spreading your legs like she did, because somebody needs to start bringing in money."
I smirked when I saw how the girls froze and the horror that flashed in their eyes. I pulled open my drawer and picked up a cigarette. I lit it with steady hands and exhaled a thick cloud of smoke as I looked towards the rain-lashed windows. "Find her, I don't care if you pay, beg, or blackmail every lowlife in Blackthorn Hollow. Track her down."
I turned to them and frowned. " Find out what you can about the last man she was with, ask the hotel clerk for the footage from that night." I said coldly as I took another puff of my cigarette.
"Yes mother." They replied in unison.
The girls hurried out of the room without saying another word, leaving me alone with only the sound of the rain. I picked up a fresh glass and poured myself another glass of wine. I walked to my vanity table and sat down with grace, my mind drifted back to Ava, that cursed child.
My hatred for her began with her mother. Arianna, the damsel who was brutally murdered. She was the epitome of true beauty. I hated her and everything she stood for. I always had my eyes on Michael, but she moved into this town and stole him from me.
Arianna stole him from me without even trying. She was the kind of woman that men would throw everything away for. Just like Michael did, he worshipped her even when she was six feet under, he still spoke about her like she was God's gift to man.
She was the innocent and kind woman who stole his heart and the hearts of many in Blackthorne Hollow, and I was none of those things. I didn't flutter around like a swan, I hunted Michael, I took him when he was shattered and glued him back together piece by piece... and still. He only ever looked at me through her shadow.
I married him and gave him my youth, my body, and my loyalty! I even raised his little wretch of a daughter, and when he died, he decided to leave me with nothing. He left everything to that bastard child of his, all his wealth went to Ava, a brat who never worked for it. She never fought like I did. After everything I did for my marriage, I was left penniless.
So I took it, I forged his signature, and had the will rewritten. I ripped her wealth from her hands like I should have done years ago; that girl would have grown up in riches if I hadn't stopped it.
I laughed and took a sip of my wine as I stared at myself in the mirror. I didn't just take her money, I took her soul. I turned her into the perfect little w***e, I still remember the very first night she started working for me, She begged me not to make her go.
She was shaking like a rabbit, and I told her, "If you want to eat, then you need to learn to be the meal first." And she listened because I gave her no other choice.
And oh, how the men loved her, they paid double for her infamous scared little look, that glassy stare of hers, and trembling voice. They called her an angel and said s*x with her was like a dream.
My face twisted in anger, I held my glass to my lips and downed the wine. No man has ever looked at me the way they looked at Ava, or her useless mother, no man has ever thrown money at me the way they did for Ava. She had everything I never did; her mother stole the man, and Ava stole the legacy.
But I took it all back with interest, and now she's gone. She's definitely been planning her escape for a while; that's the only reason why she's hidden so perfectly. Ava thinks she's free, but she has no idea what's coming. I built her cage, I will find her and rip her out of whatever hole she's hiding in. And when I do? I'll break her all over again, piece by piece. Just like I did to her mother.
