22. Babysitting I turned to Drake, who hadn’t said a word during my short exchange with Kiana, and whispered, “Does she know today’s date?” He led me out of the room and closed the door behind him, yet still he whispered. “She hasn’t asked.” It was seven in the evening on the fourteenth. There wasn’t enough time to put a watch on the church, to monitor and do background checks on anyone who came and went. And then there was the matter of the visitors back home. I’d told Alice I’d only be gone for a few hours. It was turning out to be most of the day. My intuition was telling me not to leave them alone. I had to help Kiana though, and find out what this man wanted from me. “I have a favour to ask of you,” I said hesitantly. “Go on.” “Could you … stay with them, if Danny isn’t there?”
