A few weeks later, Helen barely tapped the door before walking into Polly’s small apartment. “Hey, Lil’ Sis, wanna go to Max’s for some hamburgers and cokes?” Removing the pins of her nurse’s hat, she added, “Why are you staring at that chemistry book looking so glum?You’ve graduated!”
“Oh, Helen, I’ve wasted the last three years! I can’t remember any of this stuff for State Boards. Just thinking of those two days of tests makes me feel like puking.”
“For pete’s sake! Stop the whining! You worried yourself sick all through school, now this! Polly, every nurse who ever lived was afraid of the boards, but they didn’t drive everyone around them nuts!” Helen flopped onto a sofa, avoided a couple of springs, kicked off her white shoes, and massaged her feet. “Where’s Mildred?
