Report went quickly; the main topic was concern about the hall patients. During report, the main desk called to inform the nurses that another patient had been admitted for delivery. Polly kept glancing toward Mary Francis. “Lord, it’s going to be a busy night,” the head nurse commented. “Isn’t that three already today? Let’s hope none have complications. Garrity, how’s your newest patient doing?”
Polly said “I think Mrs. Rubenstein will need some extra care. Her husband is on a ship in the Pacific, and naturally she’s upset. She just delivered her first baby, and she’s one of our lucky hall patients.”
