IV. Two Mediterranean Ladies Rosa finishes embroidering the basket of flowers and is given a basket of kittens to stitch. Kittens are more difficult than flowers and she must pull out some mistaken stitches and redo them with Gina’s help. She’s never known a woman who did these handcrafts. In Xoyatla they wove in big, bold stripes, blankets for the beds and ponchos for the invierno. If not for this strange assignment, she never would have taken the time to do such tiny, useless things. Still, the results are pretty, and she has sewn the flower basket into a pretty pillow to give to Eva for Christmas. Maybe she will give the kittens to Esmeralda.
