Chapter 1 : The Return
***
The sky was gray, a fitting backdrop for the town of Elmridge—a quiet, coastal place where secrets were buried deeper than the ocean floor. Ivy Delaney stood at the edge of the pier, the wind tugging at her hair as if trying to whisper a warning she was too stubborn to hear.
He was back.
After seven years without a word, Aiden Cross had returned.
To anyone else, he was just another boy who’d left for college, for opportunities, for life beyond their sleepy hometown. But to Ivy, he was everything—her best friend, her first love, the boy who kissed her under the willow tree and promised he’d come back for her.
But he never did.
And then the letters stopped. The calls went unanswered. His social media vanished like a ghost. Ivy told herself he had a reason. Maybe something happened. Maybe he got into trouble. Maybe he just... forgot her.
What she never expected was the truth.
He hadn’t been in trouble.
He hadn’t forgotten her.
He’d just moved on.
With someone else.
Ivy found out by accident—two months ago, through a mutual friend’s wedding post. There he was, smiling, arm wrapped around a girl who wore a diamond on her finger. Aiden had a new life. A new love.
And now, for some reason, he was back in Elmridge. Alone.
“Ivy?”
She turned sharply at the sound of her name, heart stopping as her gaze met those familiar storm-gray eyes.
Aiden.
The boy who broke her heart in silence.
Now a man, with the same crooked smile that once made her feel like she could conquer the world. But she didn’t smile back.
Not this time.
Because this time, she wouldn’t be the girl waiting on the pier.
This time, she’d be the storm.
