Dawn had watched the children for a while as his thoughts wondered about his past and his regrets. However, after contemplating the matters for a while, he scoffed at himself as Dawn realized that he was just making scenarios inside his head leading him to pity himself even more.
Putting his thoughts aside, Dawn looked up even though he was under the trees’ shade, he could still feel the scorching heat of the sun. Dawn felt like he was getting dehydrated just by staying outside.
Even though there’s no hope that Mr. Anderson is still in the library, I should still go there and read some books. This might be a useless action but small circumstances can sometimes trigger the fate and time.
After Dawn convinced himself, he dragged his feet and legs to stand and walk under the heat wave of the sun. Still feeling that he was lost, Dawn used his phone. It’s not a touchscreen phone and there’s no gps nor google he can use to pin point his exact location, so, he dialed Roen’s number.
After a few rings, Roen answered. “Yes? Are you bored from seeing and reading too many books?” There’s a hint of smug on Roen’s voice. Dawn even imagined that he was smirking at him. Dawn grimaced as halfheartedly regretted calling Roen.
This bastard is just going to tease the hell out of me.
Despite Dawn’s regret, he still opened his mouth to ask for directions. “I’m kinda lost.” He mumbled in a soft almost silent voice but Roen clearly heard it. There was a moment of silence between them before a loud laugh resonated through Dawn’s phone.
This bastard’s clearly mocking me! This bastard almost choke on his laugh!
Dawn glared at his phone silently hoping to murder his friend on his head. The bastard was almost coughing and chocking his own saliva as he laughed at Dawn’s clumsiness. Dawn even imagined what Roen looked right now.
After a minute of laughing and catching his breath, Roen answered, he was still chuckling. “Can you stop laughing now and answer my question. You’re wasting my time!” Dawn said in annoyance but Roen did not mind him.
“I’m not the one who got lost in the first place.” Roen sneered at Dawn. Dawn coughed. He can feel his ears turning red. Thankfully none of his friends are present at his side at the moment.
“So, where are you?” Roen asked. Dawn took a moment to survey his surroundings.
“I’m at a park near the cathedral.” He said as he noticed the big church at his back and the nearby park in front of him.
“I see” Roen chuckled. He was still clearly laughing but Dawn ignored it. “You’re at Evernight street just go straight a head then when there’s an intersection turn right. After it you’ll see a restaurant, turn left and you’ll see the public library--”
Dawn did not wait for Roen to finished his sentence and ended the call immediately not bothering what Roen’s reaction if he realized that he had hung up. Don’t care! Dawn said in his mind and followed the direction Roen gave.
After a while, he had seen a white building having a name, Lorenzo public library. Dawn stayed outside for a moment as he felt nostalgia all of a sudden. Back before, he never really went to this library but there were times he passed this building by.
He laughed at his own thoughts and compared his actions before and now. Dawn then stepped inside as he saw a lady guard standing at the door. Since Dawn doesn’t have any bag, the lady guard just nodded at him and let him pass.
Dawn walked straight and registered his name on the log book before proceeding to the books shelves. However, as Dawn arrived, he blankly looked at the tall bookshelves as he realized that he doesn’t have any idea on which book he should read.
Dawn grimaced. Such an i***t! He mocked himself again and proceed to walk as he took a glance of every book in the bookshelves.
Later on he found himself on the fictional books area. Before Dawn got here, he was in the physics and science area hoping to find some theories related to time travel, space, and time. However, there was none so after letting his hopes down, he went to the place where he knew such topic exist- Fiction Area
Dawn stared blankly again on the books before walking again. As Dawn walked, he felt like he was walking aimlessly without any hope in his mind. He can’t trust his memories and he doesn’t have any thing or any clue that can change the future. All he can do was run in circles hoping he can find clues.
Before he time traveled, he hoped for the best and he was optimistic. He had expected different fantasy actions as Dawn remembered the books he once read, however, reality was different from fiction and now, he doesn’t have any clue at all.
He was not even sure if what he was doing was right or he’s just ruining the future. Dawn stopped walking and blankly stared at the books in front of him. He stared at the different covers of the books laid in front of him as he silently cursed.
“Can you help me, here?” Dawn said in a soft voice. He was hoping that Lau and Chrisitne was watching him and give him a hand or a clue. But after making himself like a fool he did not received any feedback at all.
In the end he grimaced as Dawn imagined his future going to ruins as time ticked. Fool! What an i***t! Dawn mocked himself as he felt dejected all of a sudden. He felt his energy draining and he wanted to go home and sleep.
Sleep cannot solve your problems be a man and face it! Dawn harshly told himself as he felt the slap of reality once more. In the end he just grabbed whatever books his hand land into and walked hoping to find a vacant seat where he can mull over his thoughts.
As He surveyed the area, Dawn heard someone calling him.
“Dawn?” it was a soft voice since they were in a library. Dawn who guessed the person who called him by his voice felt giddy all of a sudden as Mr. Anderson’s figure reflected on his eyes.
“Sir!” Since Dawn was feeling a little happy he wasn’t able to control his voice. His voice echoed inside the library causing the people who were there to turn their heads into his direction. Dawn met the librarian’s sharp gaze as he bit his lips and bow expressing that he was sorry.
Dawn heard Mr. Anderson chuckled. “Why are you hear?” Their teacher asked.
Dawn who was feeling a little embarrassed smiled shyly before answering the question of his teacher. “I am hoping to read some books about time travel, space and parallel universe.”
Mr. Anderson pricked his brows. He never expected that Dawn was into such topic. Mr. Anderson nodded acknowledging his student’s interest. Later on they walked side by side and found a table and chair where they can seat.
“Why are you reading such topics?” Mr. Anderson asked and Dawn felt delighted. He felt that the universe answered his prayer moments ago.
“I am just curious sir. I believed in such things where a person can travel back in the past in order to correct their mistakes or change something.” Dawn eagerly said, “How about you sir, do you believe in such things?”
Mr. Anderson paused for a while as he chuckled softly enough for only the two of them to hear. “I can’t believe you like such topics.” Anderson said not taking Dawn’s answer seriously. Dawn’s lips twitched a little but his attention remained on his teacher. “If you like such things, I can give you some books I have in my apartment. All of them are fiction though and they are just stories created by authors with creative minds.”
Dawn did not expect what Mr. Anderson’s answer. Deep inside he was disappointed. “But sir, remember the festival?” Dawn pushed the topic even more.
“The one where you caught me crying?” Mr. Anderson said in confusion. “I wasn’t crying because of that. I told you it’s because of someone important.” He answered clearly he doesn't understand what his student was talking about. Or why Dawn was pushing the matter.
Dawn shook his head with such force it might fall off. “No sir, the time where we were watching the fireworks display. You mention the word future and such”
“Ah that,” Mr. Anderson smiled. His mind suddenly played the scene over as he chuckled once more. “Have you ever experience dreaming about the future?”
“No?” Dawn answered in a question.
“Well, there were times I felt like I was dreaming something about the future. However, when I wake up, I can’t remember it anymore. There were just moments like Deja vu where I felt like I had seen this before but can’t remember when and where.”
Mr. Anderson explained. Dawn pouted as he felt a little dismay. He was clearly hoping to find some clues and doing some research but it was all for naught. He stretch his lips forming a thin line. Anderson saw the change of his student’s expression.
“Why? Have you encounter such things?” Mr. Anderson can’t help but asked since it looked like this was a sensitive topic for his student. Dawn was silent for a while remembering the warning of Lau and Christine to him.
I can’t tell him that I am from the future. It might cause ripples and error. He said in his mind as he looked hopeless.
“Sir, if you travel back in time and there’s something you want to change, what would you do?” Dawn asked. Mr. Anderson looked at his student for a while as he seriously considered his student’s action.
He was planning of telling a ridiculous joke about it however, when Mr. Anderson noticed that such topic was sensitive to his student, he decided to answer the question seriously.
“If I time traveled and wanted to change something, isn’t it common sense to find the root of the problem and deal with it?” He said in the most calm way possible. Dawn nodded.
“What if you don’t know the root of the problem?”
“Research?” Mr. Anderson said as he started to get confused. “Like follow a certain steps and knowing what you need to do before engaging such actions.” He explained more.
“I’m clueless.” Dawn whispered but it was enough for Mr. Anderson to hear. Is this kid dreaming? Mr. Anderson said in his mind. Is he suffering from grade 8 syndrome?
“There was one theory I read over,” Mr. Anderson said as he eyed his student once more. His initial plan was to stay at the library to update his lesson plan and check some papers but now, he’s entangled with his student’s grade 8 syndrome disease.
Dawn looked up, his gaze met his teacher’s eyes, Dawn’s gaze were hopeful but it was making Mr. Anderson uncomfortable. “In theory, according Physicists have considered time travel to be theoretically possible since Einstein came up with his theory of relativity. Einstein's calculations suggest it's possible for an object in our universe to travel through space and time in a circular direction, eventually ending up at a point on its journey where it's been before – a path called a closed time-like curve but then, they also told that changing the past is not possible even though you can travel.”
“Huh?” Dawn asked as he felt confused. He was considering his teacher’s theory but he knew that the situation he was in was not because of science but because of fantasy. Dawn tried to understand everything in the perspective of science however, he can’t explain why the time had to be reset in his case or why Lau and Christine gave him such change. In the first place he didn’t even use a time machine and he was just transported back in the past.
If facts and science can’t answer my question then it’s clear that what happened to me is a fantasy. And in a fantasy world such as this, there are many things possible and it’s not limited in through science. I just need something. Like a path to take. We’re even planning on imprisoning River’s parents hoping that he won’t kill himself and now, I am not sure whether it was the right thing to do or not. I am confuse as hell. I feel like I am going in circles and circles until I give up.
Dawn concluded in his head as he felt dejected once more. He wanted to cry as he felt like his hope was crushing before his eyes. He heaved his breath and close his eyes. He then pinched his forehead as he felt his headache coming and there’s the heat of the sun. Thankfully, the library has many electric fan.
“What if it’s fantasy? Not science?” He said in a mournful manner. Mr. Anderson blinked as he felt a little uncomfortable upon his student’s behavior. However, in the end he answered his student’s question.
“If that was the case, then possibilities are endless. You just need something to lead you. You can also try trial and error since you can’t just focused on one thing at a time.”
Dawn smiled. I’m afraid of trying and trying since I don’t know if I am allowed to influence things beyond my wish.
Dawn felt a little regretful as he realized how life was really hard.
