Roses POV
"Then where are we going?"
I asked Langston.
"My home".
HIS WHAT?! Okay, this doesn't have to be a big deal. But, stranger danger right? I can't just go off with him can I?
"You didn't have any complaints earlier" Sky chided, I could almost imagine her rolling her eyes at me in that moment.
But shes right.
I guess I need to accept that nothing today has been normal, and everything has been anything but.
Maybe I should get to know him better. Break the ice, or whatever people do to strike a casual conversation.
"I mean no disrespect Langston, but we haven't even had a date, and were going to your house? Isn't it a bit soon?" I couldnt help myself. I could hear sky laughing like a hyena, while I gave him.a deadpan look trying to keep a straight face while battling the inner laughter that wanted to spill out at that moment.
Langston stopped dead in his tracks and looked at me with his eyes wide open, like a deer caught in head lights. Oh this was priceless!
"I wasnt - That wasn't what I- I mean -We aren't- I'm not.."
I couldn't contain it any longer. The laughter rolled out of me like tidal waves before he could finish his sentence.
"That was too easy! You should have seen your face! Gosh, your going to be so much fun to tease!"
Langstons eyes softened and his face turned into a smirk. I swear I heard a slight chuckle.
"Haha I have to admit, you got me there. But if you think that was fun, just wait until what I have planned for you" He looked at me.
Now it was my turn to stop. My face dropped and the laughter stopped.
He picked me up and threw me over his shoulders, granting a squel from me.
"Hey there now, I was kidding. But this is way more fun. Your face was far better then mine. I can't believe you thought I'd be a creep haha"
Oh thank Godess. Relief washed through me when I realised it was an innocent retaliation to my joke. This whole this has me so tense I can't even realise when someone's joking around with me. What is wrong with me.
All I felt was sadness wash over me, as all the bad things in my life suddenly stuck in my mind. Weighing heavily on my shoulders.
"Don't let the past weigh you down rose. Your stronger then you know."
Thanks, but I don't feel it.
"Sorry, Im not usually this tense. Must be the crazy from before catching up again." I sighed.
Langston put me down on my own two feet. We were now 15 feet from the school doors.
I felt a little panicked at the prospect of knowing what was behind those doors waiting for me.
I started shaking slightly.
"Its alright. The adrenaline is probably wearing off. You'll be back to yourself soon enough. Our rides not far so well wait here until they arrive, okay?" Langston spoke.
But I couldn't hear him. Everything felt like a weight crushing the air out of me. Suddenly I was shaking alot more violently out of fear. I couldn't breathe. I was gasping. My vision was become dazed. My sight become blurry everywhere I looked and I became frantic making everything worse.
"s**t! Rose, whats wrong??" Langston was calling.
It felt like I was hearing him call.me through a tunnel.
"I - I c-c-can-t-t br-eath " I stumbled out.
"Rose, ROSE can you hear me?" Langston was right in front of me now waving his hand infront of me trying to get my attention but I wasn't paying him any.
I was focused on the shadows behind the door infront of us.
"They're here" Is all I managed to say before the shaking got violently worse and all I could see was the blue light.
My eyes rolled back into my head before the blue light went out and I collapsed on the floor.
Langstons POV
"They're here"
Rose said in A strong calm tone, it felt displaced like it wasn't her own. What the hell is going on!
I'm freaking out here.
Now she's shaking worse, okay Langston, pull your s**t together you train for worse every day.
"Rogues!" Kane growled in my head.
My head snapped to the front door and I realised there were shadows behind the door. I could smell them.
Their scent was overwhelming and foul. All I could smell was rotten flesh wafting in that direction.
Shit.
Suddenly there was a strange bright blue light in the halls. I turned to Rose, to see her eyes roll in her head just in time to catch her before she hit the floor.
What the heck was that?
Did she just do that?
What is she?
I heard snarls coming from behind the door. I hear a set of foot steps climbing the last stairs as whoever it was, was about to reach the door.
Its too late to call anyone.
Hopefully Beta is close by. Im going to have to try link.
"Beta!"
I hurriedly screamed in the link.
Praying to the goddess they were close by and he'd hear me.
"Delta, is everything okay?"
I don't think I ever felt more relieved in that moment.
"They're here. The rogues. Were behind the front doors to the school. They're outside the front doors. You need to get here now. They're coming"
I picked up rose in my arms as gently as I could, and dashed down the hall to the closest empty class room. There weren't many but there was one near by. I Rushed in and barricaded the door with tables and chairs in a fashion that would make it difficult to break in.
"Were not far. Well be less then a minute. Can you hold on until then?"
Thankyou godess! I could take these rogues, but not on human territory and not while I have to protect rose.
"Yes. I think I bought some time. Were barricaded in an empty classroom off the hallway by the front entrance."
The smell of rogue got stronger.
I could hear footsteps again. echoing through the silent halls. Everyones in class right now, So I need to make sure these rogues don't cause any trouble.
But I need to protect rose first.
"Nick, They're in the hall. You need to get here NOW"
I picked rose up and decided our best option right now was to run.
I go over to the window to the left and as quietly as possible open up the biggest window I could find. It was only big enough for half a person, so I was going to have to get creative.
I took my shirt off. Here goes.
Smash
There goes the window. Hope the Alpha doesn't mind paying a donation to the school for that.
Blood starts dropping everywhere and I realised I cut my hand up.
It will heal quickly. So I ignore the pain in my hand. I hear thumping against the door and angry snarls coming from the other side. I grab rose as fast as I can and jump.
It was a good 5 meter fall in total. But thats nothing for us.
Once I was on the ground I ran.
"I had to break a window and make a run for it. Im headed west down the street"
I linked Nick.
Just as I thought it was clear, I saw a figure at the corner of my eye smirking.
The dirty fucking.rogues!
They had someone out here waiting. I should have f*****g known.
He was across the road, but he was gaining on me.
As he was running toward me on the road, A car slammed right into him making him fly a good few meters.
Suddenly Felix was running past me after the rogue at an incredible speed.
Thankfully there was noone on the street at the moment, it was relatively quiet so Noone saw anything.
I changed direction and ran straight into the car.
I put rose in the back seat first and shifted in beside her.
"Ben, I need you to guard the entrance to the town and make sure our travel is safe. The others will deal to the rogues and the situation at hand."
Nick commanded.
"Yes beta" Ben jumped out of the car and started running out of sight.
Nick shifts the gears and speeds away from the scene. Trying to avoid any sightings I presume.
"What have you got yourself into langston?" Nick looks into the rare view mirror to stare at me for a split second.
"Honestly, I don't even know myself." Was all I could say.
"She needs to see the pack doctor. She needs stitches. And something weird happened with her eyes when the rogues turned up." I sighed.
Nick shook his head slightly, "You know alpha won't be happy about that. He's already unimpressed about having a human in the pack. Its dangerous for all of us".
He sighed. I knew he was right.
"I don't think she's human" Kane chipped in.
What do you mean?
"I mean, I don't think she's human. That light radiated pure power. A human couldn't posses such power"
Thinking about it. He was right.
She couldn't be a witch, could she?
"I don't know. Im not sure, I don't think she's a witch either. It didn't feel like an elemental power. It felt strong, raw"
What does that even mean? Godess, what are we going to do with you rose?
"Kane doesn't think she's human "
Nick turns to look at me, with a stern confused look on his face.
"What do you mean he doesn't think she's human? She IS human isn't she? From a human family?"
"She mentioned she was adopted. She was orphaned. Maybe she was hidden with humans?"
Kane made alot of sense right now. The pieces make sense but they also don't. theres so many questions that need answers.
"Shes adopted. She was orphaned. Kane doesn't think she's human. A blue light radiated from her eyes before she passed out when the rogues showed up and Kane seems to think it was some sort of strong power. Though he doesn't think shes a witch either. Im not sure whats going on. But we need to figure it out"
Nick nodded his head in agreement.
Once we got closer to the pack Beta linked the pack doctor and The alpha to let him know. Alpha said wed have to take her to my house at the outskirts of the pack for the pack doctor to treat her and hed see us there. He didn't want to expose us to a human. We hadn't told him our suspicions yet or what happened. But even if she wasn't human, we are cautious with outsiders for the safety of the pack so I understood the alphas concerns.
It was a long quiet drive back to the packhouse.
Thankfully, the rogues didn't follow and it was uneventful. But I was concerned about rose. She was still out cold. I had no idea what the hell happened to her, but I needed to figure it out if I wanted to keep her safe.
