ABOUT THE NOVEL The novel begins with a widowed woman living in a village with her two daughters. Her elder daughter works in many places along with studies to help with her family's expenses. One day she did not come home, her mother went with neighbors to find her, but could not proceed to find her. Then she went to the police station to lodge a missing complained but police refused to file it and threw them out by scolding. When they went to retired Army Major, then the Major searched her again with them and found her dead body. He forced police to file a murder report.
The main story of this novel comes to the readers during the investigation of the murder that many members of John's family were brutally murdered in communal riots during the Partition of India. The rest of the family immigrated to India from Karachi, a few years later lead character lived away from own family. Why did lead character stay away from own family? What happened to them in Karachi? The answers to all these questions are found as the story of this novel moves forward. Yes, one more thing, if you read it by leaving the chapters of the novel, then nothing will be understood.
