Chapter 1
On a warm Sunday afternoon, with sunlight streaming through the windows, Lisa went about her chores as usual. She cleaned the dishes while preparing lunch for the family, the clinking of plates, and the aroma of food filling the kitchen. "Darling, do you need some help there?" Her mother asked from the living room, preparing to make her way to the kitchen. "No, mum. I can handle everything. I just need you to give yourself some rest, you've been working all week." Lisa had barely finished her statement when Mrs. Sebastian noticed a sleek black Rolls Royce pulling up in front of the house, its body gleaming under the sun. With her eyes fixated on the car, she moved closer to the window to have a clearer view and perhaps, have a hint of what was about to happen. As Mrs. Sebastian watched from the window, she saw a man step out of the car. He was a tall man with handsome features. His strong jawline and piercing eyes gave him a look of determination, and she couldn't help but notice how his well-tailored suit accentuated his masculine figure. Even though his look didn't seem like one who was there to create chaos, Mrs. Sebastian couldn't help but wonder what trouble her husband had gotten into this time. She almost lost balance when she heard a knock on the door. "Who…who is there?" She managed to muster, after struggling to catch her breath. Instead of a response, the knock continued, and she couldn't be surprised because she barely even heard her own voice. Mrs. Sebastian hesitated as she listened to the persistent knocking at the door. She couldn't shake the feeling of worry that had settled within her. With a sigh, she made her way to the door, her fragile hands trembling, and her mind racing with fear. Upon opening the door, she was met by a strong, yet strangely alluring scent. It was masculine, with hints of musk and earthy woods. Seeing that she seemed to be lost in her thoughts, Ryan cleared his throat to get her attention. "Good afternoon ma'am, I'm here for Lisa," Ryan said, his tone serious yet respectful. Lisa, who already rounded off what she was doing and made her way to the living room after she heard the continuous knock at the door, couldn’t help but be surprised at Ryan’s words. "Me?" She asked, her voice filled with confusion, and her eyes, questions. She raised her brows, expecting more information from the strange man whom she had never met. She exchanged a puzzled glance with her mother before stepping forward. Seeing the tension in her mother's eyes, Lisa knew that appearing equally tense would only make her mother more nervous. She took a deep breath, trying to maintain a calm composure, as she addressed Ryan. "What do you mean you're here for me?" she asked, her voice steady despite the unease she felt within her. Ryan hesitated for a moment, his gaze shifting between Lisa and her mother before he spoke. "About that, you might have to meet with Mr. Sebastian," he said cautiously, his words hanging in the air with a weight that Lisa and her mother couldn't quite decipher. Before Mrs. Sebastian could respond, the door creaked open further, and Lisa's heart sank as she caught sight of her father stumbling into the room, his body reeking of alcohol. As Mr. Sebastian struggled to find his way into the room, his body swaying unsteadily, Ryan moved away slowly, paving a way for him to pass through. Lisa couldn't shake the feeling of shame that settled in the pit of her stomach as her father moved closer, his presence casting a shadow over the room. Mr. Sebastian managed to lower himself onto the worn-out chair, his movements clumsy and uncoordinated. Finally seeming to notice Ryan's presence, he raised his hands in a gesture of greeting, his movements slow and unsteady. His eyes, bleary and unfocused, struggled to focus on the figure standing before him. With a weak smile, he attempted to speak, but his words came out slurred and incomprehensible. The room fell silent as Mr. Sebastian let out a loud belch, the sound echoing off the walls and seeming to call him back to reality. He blinked, his eyes focusing slightly as he tried to regain control over himself. The belch seemed to have jolted him out of his drunken state, at least, temporarily. "Gosh! How embarrassing can this man be?" Lisa thought, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she looked at her father. She felt as if the ground should swallow her just to spare her from the disgusting scene unfolding before her. Mrs. Sebastian, on the other hand, seemed unbothered. Instead, she finally offered Ryan a seat, smiling sheepishly as she apologized for the mess he just witnessed. "Thank you, ma'am," Ryan said graciously as he took the seat offered to him. As if he was in a hurry to escape the scene before him, he checked his wristwatch before turning his attention to Mr. Sebastian. "Sir, I'm here for Lisa," he stated firmly, his tone leaving no room for misunderstanding. Lisa's confusion deepened at Ryan's words. She exchanged a puzzled glance with her mother, both of them turning their gaze to Mr. Sebastian, eagerly awaiting his response. Mr. Sebastian, still recovering from his earlier stupor, furrowed his brow as he tried to process Ryan's words. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke, his voice slurred but determined. "Lisa…" he began, his words slow and deliberate, "...you heard the young man. Pack your stuff and get ready to go with him." Lisa thought her father was still under the influence of alcohol. She remained seated, unsure of what to make of the situation, and asked if he even knew what the man was talking about. "Dad, do you even understand what he said?" Lisa questioned, her voice marked with disbelief. Mr. Sebastian blinked as if trying to focus his thoughts. "Of course, I...I do, Lisa," he replied, his voice wavering slightly. "That man...Ryan…he is here to take you to your new home." Lisa's eyes widened in surprise, her heart skipping a beat. "My new home? What do you mean, Dad?" she asked, her voice trembling with a hint of anticipation and confusion. Lisa felt a knot form in her stomach as she waited for her father to continue. She glanced at her mother, whose expression was unreadable, before returning her gaze to her father, her eyes filled with a mix of apprehension and curiosity. Mr. Sebastian took a deep breath, his gaze shifting between Lisa and her mother. He noticed Lisa's wide-eyed expression. "You…" he said while pointing at Lisa, "...why are you looking like you just saw a ghost?" He asked, his voice filled with irritation. Lisa's heart raced as she tried to make sense of her father's words. "Dad, a new home? What’s going on?" Her voice wavered with worry, her eyes darting between her father and Ryan. The room felt suffocatingly quiet, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. They all held their breath, waiting for Mr. Sebastian to explain, each passing moment adding to the uncertainty hanging in the air.
