Amber's POV
Everyday Hawk would take me out to the stream and we would practice after breakfast. Then we would walk back to the house, where I would grab a supernatural history book, sit down under the tree and read. I would look up to see Hawk always watching me. He would bring food out to the tree if I didn't get up, which was often. I enjoyed eating with him outside. We could talk without the noise of what was going on in the dinning room.
"So you have seen all of Europe?" I asked him with surprise.
"I have," He smiled. I watched his eyes dart to the road behind me at the front of the house. "Ma Cháñte, I need you to come in the house." He stood, reaching his hand d down for me.
I looked up to see his brown eyes show they were worried, "What's going on?" I grabbed his hand as he helped me up.
"We have quests coming, I would rather you be near Mato while I check on who it is." He started leading me toward the house. I followed. Holding his hand helped me not be nervous and kept me calmer.
At the top of the back porch steps. I heard him ask after, Mato. Then he lead me all the way through the house to the front porch where Mato stood. "Anyone you know?" Hawk asked Mato.
"Nobody should be coming today." Mato looked at Hawk then smiled to me.
"I will leave Amber with you and go meet them." Hawk announced. Turning his eyes to me he smiled, "I will be right back," He tucked one of my wild chestnut strands of hair behind my ear. Squeezing my hand he added, "Do not worry Ma Cháñte." He let go and turned as at least 10 motorcycles came up the drive way. They parked, in a semi circle and got off their bikes. Walking to where Hawk stood. I seen that Hawk had a sword with him. Had placed that sword in the room but I had never seen him pick it up.
"Are you Mato?" A large leather clad man with a bald head and blonde mustache asked.
"Nope" I heard Hawk say, as he stressed the "p" in the word.
"We would like to chat with him." The bald guy grunted crossing his arms over his chest.
"What's it about?" Hawk threw back, he was relaxed a lazy smile on his face.
"A girl," the bald guy snapped clearly annoyed.
"I know Mato does not hand out the girls in this pack. So why ask." Hawk's voice took on a bit of a mocking tone.
Another man, short dark hair with faded sides, and a scar along the side of his face spoke then, "We aren't asking." He growled. His eyes went all black. I realized he was like the wolf who had me when I was little. I grabbed Mato's arm sucking in a breath.
Mato stepped forward slightly blocking my sight to say, "I don't hand over girls to people like you." He tone solid and unforgiving.
"See," I heard the playful tone in Hawk's voice say. "straight from the source." He chuckled. "I would advise you to leave." His voice suddenly held a chilled edge.
I peeked around Mato to see him, get into the stance he had taught me. "Leave," Mato growled low. "You are not wanted here."
"Oh, but we drove all this way." The dark haired man with the black eyes growled back. I heard the sword pulled before, I seen Hawk. The sword was pointed down and he was just standing there.
"I don't mind killing any of you." I heard the deadly way he spoke. The tone made me nervous. I knew this was going to end in violence. But, I had no idea how.
Something grabbed me roughly from behind, I let out a surprised yelp. Mato turned instantly took a back hand to the man who had snuck in from behind. The guy was flung into the wall. Folding like a a chair from the force Mato used. Some of the men that Mato trained made a circle around me as Mato picked up the guy and carried him to the top of the stairs. He flung him out into the dirt. "Take your trash and get out!" Roared Mato, the rumbling ground shaking the wood of the porch.
I looked around one of the warriors in time to see, Hawk swing his sword and bodies start to fall. I could see the slices and the blood that came out with the blade. When most had fallen it was the two who had originally spoke to Hawk. The man with dark hair and black eyes and the bald guy who's eyes now resembled a cat. I could see his nose had changed and whiskers there with elongated fangs. I involuntarily suck in a yelp as it was the same type of man who had taken my virginity. I still remembered the searing pain. Opening my eyes I, watched as Hawk's sword sliced the cat looking man in half at the waist. Hawk let the sword fall as he grabbed the dark haired man. Holding him as if it was nothing, the man changed into a snapping dark grey wolf. Hawk said something, and a whistled whine left the wolf's mouth, as he flopped down on his side. Eyes hazed over in death and tongue flat in the dirt. I pushed past the warriors around me, down the stairs to Hawk. His eyes were closed, his chest heaving, blood in splatters on his shirt. I grabbed his waist and hugged for all I was worth. Snapping my eyes closed I held on for dear life. I needed to know he was ok. I felt his arms slowly wrap around me. "You ok Ma Cháñte?" I heard him ask.
"I am," I smiled into his shirt. "I was just scared."
"No need to be," I felt him squeeze me tightly.
"Why are they after me?" I said into his chest.
"I am not sure, I think we need to find out what you are." Hawk said quietly above my head. His arms wrapped around me protectively.
I nodded, still having my arms around his waist. I did not want to let go. "We will clean this up, why don't you go in and get those clothes changed." Mato spoke near us.
"Thank you," I felt Hawk nod. "Come with me Ma Cháñte." He started walking slowly with me still holding on to his middle.
At the stairs I let go of his waist, as he grabbed my hand. We walked up stairs. He opened the door and I went inside first while he followed. Closing the door he walked to his dresser pulling the shirt off, he plopped it in the hamper. I seen a few small cuts but they were already mending as if they were not there.
