Amber's POV
What Hawk had described as mates, and then how Maya the psychic had came to him. Saying the same things. I was a bit taken aback. I was even further thrown off when he said he had never had one. How do you go a few thousand years without a mate? I asked myself. Reading about the different goddesses and gods that ruled the supernatural people. Why would they wait so long for him.
I had thought about this until sleep, worry over took me when I woke up to find he was gone. I had grabbed a plate and sat on the stairs letting my self think even more about it. Just didn't seem right.
When I caught sight of him coming through the trees, no fear like he owned everything around him. His hair wet, trails of water seeped down his chiseled chest. I could see white faded scars, enhancing his wow factor. The girls this morning called it.
Telling me he bathed in a stream, while we had a perfectly good shower surprised and baffled me. Watching his wet sculpted form eating I had to look away. I watched the training, ever since I had started I had wanted to try. Nerves had gotten in the way of it.
Offering to teach me, I could not pass it up, and that he would let me hide in a place that I could try it with no one watching. I had nothing to fear with him around. Mato had even said he was a brilliant fighter. I had seen how easy he had stopped the man from coming closer. Following him into the woods, scared me a little but I reminded myself he was here.
Hawk moved my body they way he said would be a good starting form for other things, left me oddly empty. But that was soon replaced by heated muscles and trying to read his body language. Once I realized I could see what he was going to hit with, he changed it up. I watched as he stopped to braid his flowing black tresses. I liked it down.
The question about the water made me realize, he likely didn't take showers. Which in turn made me curious about how cold the stream was.
"I don't think I could accurately describe it." Hawk shrugged. "I have done it so long it feels normal to me."
"Then I will test it myself." I murmured more to my self then anyone else. I set my mind to do it. Walking forward I squatted down, sticking my finger in the rushing water, it was chilly. "It's cold." I squealed looking back at him with surprise. Standing up, I seen he didn't seem upset by it. I shook my head, walking back to him "Have you never taken a hot shower?"
"Can't say that I have." He didn't seem bothered by it.
"Oh no," I breathed. "Then you must!" I all but shouted. Grabbing his hand, I started to head to the house until I realized I didn't know which way to go.
I looked into his brown eyes, "I am not sure how to get back," I looked back down at the dirt.
"Come on," I felt Hawk take the lead.
However, once we could see the house, I took over tugging him all the way up stairs. I flung open th bedroom door and seen bags on Hawk's bed. That meant he had clean clothes. I closed the door, grabbing a pair of sweats and a tank. Opening the door I put them in the bathroom, turning the water on and checking the temp. Glancing at the other bags, I found shampoo and conditioner, along with body wash. Gathering them in my one arm, I caught his wrist as I pulled him with me to the bathroom. I then turned to him, "the first bliss I ever had here, was this shower. It was a fantastic experience. If I had to go back to that life tomorrow. The moment of the shower could hold me over." I closed my eyes and sighed. Shaking my head, "Here is the shampoo to wash your hair, the conditioner to help get tangles out and body wash so you can clean the rest of you." With his arms full, I gave him a quick hug and said "Have fun!" Closing the bathroom door, I started putting away the clothes they brought into the empty dresser near the bed.
I settled on my bed, with the book, once I had finished. I was lost in the book when I heard the bathroom door open. I closed the book to see, the sweats rode low on his narrow hips, showing off all his muscles.
"Well?" I raised a brow to ask.
"Ok, that warm waterfall does feel much better then the stream." He chuckled. He seen the bags were gone. "My clothes?" His voice slightly surprised.
"I put them in that dresser," I pointed to the little dresser near the bed.
"Oh," Hawk paused. "Thank you," he turned to smile.
"Of course, that is what friends are for," I smiled brightly. Opening the book, I settled back to reading it more. I needed to focus on the book. Looking at his chest and everything was causing my brain to act silly. He made my mind, think about stuff that use to repulse me. I found myself thinking about them with Hawk. Then I would get mad at myself and realize I need to focus on something else. The history book has a chapter on the mate bond. I have been reading that it says your body craves the other person, as its the souls wanting to connect. The more they are together the closer they get.
"Hawk," I glanced up to see he was laying on the bed.
"Yes, Ma Cháñte?" He sat up, looking at me curiously.
"Have you read about mates?" I asked.
"Bits here and there," He sighed. "But after the first thousand years I didn't bother." He leaned back looking at me intently.
"It surprises me that you have spent so long without one." I spoke concern ebbing of my words. I handed him the page I was on, and leaned back to watch his reaction. Reading people I was good at. It was one of the reasons I had stayed alive this long.
I watched him read, I seen no emotion on his face as he handed me back the book. I tilted my head to the side as if that would help me read his thoughts. There was nothing to read. Perhaps he was still digesting it himself. Maybe having never had a mate he was just as clueless about this as me.
