Hawk's POV
I told Amber about mates. She repeated the word. I did not hear any more. I was surprised, she did not treat me different or act any different. She continued reading until evening.
That night, she went up stairs. and got herself in bed. I stayed on the porch for a bit, waiting for her to sleep. I figured after chatting with Mato about the days events.
I walked up the stairs, walking to her door I heard her heart beat was steady. Opening the door I was surprised to see her sitting up and reading. Amber closed the book, smiling she placed the book on the night stand. I looked in the room to see another small bed had been added on the other side of the room.
Amber sat up, glancing at the bed and to me she offered, "I thought the bed would be better then the chair." She gave me a small smile.
"Thank you," I nodded. I grabbed the chair and walked it back near her bed. I seen her look up at me with a question in her eyes. "In case you have nightmares I hold your hand." I answered the unasked question.
I watched as she realized what I had been doing. She nodded, I seen her cheeks get pink. Turning to the bed, I laid back against the mattress. I sighed. It did feel so much better then the chair. I had to smile to myself for all the nasty stuff she seen, she still thought of taking care of others.
"Did you have a mate before?" I heard her ask.
I lifted up to look at her. "No, I have never had one." I lifted up to sit on the bed.
"Never?" Amber seemed shocked.
"Never." I repeated. I could see her lips tip up. "Maya the psychic, you talked to, came to me and told me to go find you." I added.
"Maya," Amber became lost in thought. Her eyes went wide, as she looked back to me. "She said you would become a friend then..." Her voiced trailed off.
"Mato told me friend to lover," I smiled. "For now we are just friends." I swung my legs on the bed, stacking my hands behind my head.
"And the lovers?" Amber's weak voice came to my ears.
I sat up, walking to her slowly, I sat in the chair. "I do not know." I started. "I am just as new at this as you." I shrugged. "For now we are just friends." I took her hand and squeezed it. Standing I turned to go, but noticed she did not.
I glanced down at her hand and then looked at her with a raised brow. "Friends." She smiled then let go.
The next morning I was up early, I handed one of the girls my card, so that when they went shopping they could bring me back some clothes. There was a stream nearby that I had been rinsing off in but, the clothes needed changing. Rinsing off, I threw my pants on and grabbed the shirts and socks. with my boots and started walking back to the house. I caught her scent on the breeze. As I broke the tree line I seen her sitting on the porch. My hair was wet, as was my skin.
"What are you doing here?" I couldn't help but ask.
"You left early," Amber started, as she stood. "I got worried you went after something." she glanced at me, my chest and then at my bare feet.
"I headed to get rinsed off in the stream not far away." My arm lifted of its own accord to the general direction of what I had mentioned.
"There is a shower, in the bedroom." Amber mumbled. "I brought you the plate from breakfast." Walking back up the porch. I didn't realize how well put together her backside was. I felt a tingling in my stomach and heat drift down a ways. She wore those shorts that hugged the right places and her shirt showed off her curves.
"You coming?" I looked up to see her looking at me with flustered expression.
"Yes, Ma Cháñte." I smiled, I would have to ask Mato what that was later.
I walked on the porch, to see she had a plate of food, there and a glass of orange juice. I sat, on the swing as she handed me the plate. "What about yours Ma Cháñte?" I seen she had nothing.
"I ate while I waited." She smiled, looking out at the people getting ready for training.
"I would like to learn one day." She murmured as she watched them stretch and run, squaring off into partners after.
"You want to learn how to fight?" I stopped eating to ask.
She glanced at me, "I do." Amber's eyes said she did in earnest.
"If you really want to, I can help." I finished off my food. Drinking the juice, I placed the empty glass on the empty plate. I stood, reaching my hand out "come on Ma Cháñte I will start today." I could see her eyes looking at mine. She slowly grabbed my hand.
She stood, "with them?" She looked at everyone practicing.
"No, we will find a spot in the forest." I squeezed her hand. I lead her the same way I had gone to the stream. There was a nice little flat spot encircled by rocks. She followed, quietly.
"Oh, the stream," She murmured to herself.
"A nice little flat spot hidden away, so you can learn. Ma Cháñte." I kissed her hand as we rounded the corner to the stream and flat spot.
She looked around and then looked up. "How do we start?" I could see eagerness to learn plastered all over her face.
"Let's start with learning to block." I walked to her and widened her stance Lifting her arms, I moved the elbows until I could get her hands in the proper position. "This position, will be your basis for everything in your fighting." I turned to face her, now I want you to deflect my hands from touching you." I waggled my eyebrows.
Amber giggled, and I started reaching out to her slowly at first then picked up speed. She was better then most humans with her speed. I noticed I could distract her with body language. With proper practice she would be a very skilled fighter.
"Ma Cháñte, you will make a skilled warrior." I stood back lifting my hand in surrender.
She giggled, looking over my shoulder she asked "How cold is the water?"
"I don't think I could accurately describe it." I shrugged. "I have done it so long it feels normal to me."
"Then I will test it myself." She murmured more to her self then anyone else.
