Amber's POV It had been a week since Hawk had took me to the bottom of the stairs and showed me how grass felt. He followed me every where. I had gotten a huge surprise when he said he was a few thousand years old. I did not know supernaturals could be that old. Every morning, I would wake up and the chair near my bed would be empty. But his scent would be heavy in my room. I suspected he was sleeping in here. But after that first morning I did not see him. My nightmares would start but they would stop soon after. Like they never had the chance to take over my mind. I liked this a lot. I did not say a word to him or anyone else. I wanted to see for my self it was true. I had remembered drinking a lot of water cause me to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night once when I first got here. So this evening I did it again. I had a few glasses of water, and settled in my bed. Sleep found me quickly, and my dreams shifted from scary things to grass and sunlight. I heard horses in neighing in the distance. The meadow I was in, had wild flowers and it smelled of their sweetness. I was enjoying this dream when I found my self uncomfortable. My eyes fluttered open to see Hawk sitting near my bed. He was stretched out in the chair his head tilted slightly back, while his chest slowly rose and fell. I turned slowly And slid out of the covers, I tip toed to the bathroom, sliding the door closed I did my business. Opening the door I peeked around the side of it to see he was still sitting in the chair. His breathing even, I slowly tip toed back to the bed slipping into the covers I settled myself quietly. Rolling on my side I watched him sleep. I was not upset about him being here. It actually was comforting to know he was watching me. I noticed that one of his hands was close to the bed, his long fingers looked so young for the age he said he was. I wanted to touch them but did not want to wake him. I stared at him till I found sleep. Morning came, as I fluttered my eyes open. I seen he was looking at me. I smiled slightly as I nodded to him. I got up and stretched, walking to the bathroom. When I came out he was standing near the door, "I will see you at breakfast?" I asked as my bare feet padded to the closet for my clothes. "I will be there." He said quietly, still watching me intently. I walked inside the closet and dressed. When I came out, he was not there. I put my flip flops on and walked out of the room. At breakfast, we sat in silence, him quietly watching me while I eyed him. It had been a week he never did anything while I slept. which told me he was only watching. I asked Momma Dee if she still had the supernatural history books. Ones that talked about how things worked between all races. I like reading about them. I had no idea what I was, so reading about them all gave me information I was seeking. I grabbed the book one of the history books, and settled under the tree, everyone was training. Hawk was sitting on the stairs, I had never seen him join the training. But, I figured that him being a few thousand years old he meant he really didn't have to train. I was lost in my reading when I caught Hawk's scent. I looked up to see him looking at me. He kneeled down, flipped his braid behind him. "I had one of the staff bring some food out for you." He glanced back at the young girl with two plates. Another guy had a pitcher of apple juice and two glasses. "Oh," my stomach growled then letting me know that I was hungry. He smiled, and handed the plate over to me. Laying it down on a tray that was placed near us. "Thank you," I looked up at him and nodded. He finished pouring the juice, handing me a glass of it. "What have you learned in there?" He settled down picking up the sandwich and taking a bite of it. "There are a lot more creatures then what I have seen." I started, taking a bite of the bacon turkey sandwich. "Indeed there are," He nodded knowingly. "Any questions?" I seen him looking into my eyes as if he was searching for something. "Dragons become people?" I couldn't help but ask. It didn't seem possible. I watched him throw his head back and laugh. "Yes, the can do that though most don't." Hawk answered with a smile. "The Royal dragons will wander in human form from time to time." He took a sip of the Apple juice. "How do I find out what I am?" I asked. I figured he out of anything would know. "We will have to be careful in choosing who you ask." I watched Hawk become silent a moment. "I have a feeling we will find out in time. For now I would read up and feel free to ask me anything." He picked up his sandwich and began eating again. "Ok," I nodded letting my sandwich take my attention "So you are ok with me sleeping near you then?" Hawk's smooth voice drew my eyes. "I am," I hesitantly nodded. "I thought you might be." I paused to see what his reaction was. "How so?" Hawk tilted his head to the side. "Your scent, never faded." I glanced away as I said that. Looking at him he raised a black eyebrow. "My scent?" "Yes," I gave him a weak smile. "What do I smell like to you?" Hawk's eyebrow still raised, the corners of his lips turned up. "Horse and leather." I glanced back at the missing sandwich to find my glass of apple juice. "Horse and leather," Hawk repeated. "You smell like the open prairie after a summer storm." His soft words touched my ears down to my chest. "Why can we smell those things?" I looked back at him. He chuckled a bit, glancing back at the house. "Mato would choose to say we are true mates." There was a serious look in his eyes. "Mates." I murmured out loud to my self.
