Bandages

Hawk's POV I knew she was looking at me, I could feel it. Perks of living alone with no one to answer too. I kept my eyes closed, I liked the fact she was looking. Something about it warmed my body, making my chest swell again. I watched Momma Dee sit down, near her feet. Taking out a small pair of scissors she cut the sides revealing just red lines. "Oh, dear you will be able to walk by morning," Momma Dee looked up at her with a smile. "You heal very fast." She clapped her hands together. I watched Amber give a weak smile and glance out over to where everyone was enjoying themselves. I got the feeling she wanted to experience fun. Not just watch it. Momma Dee cut the other bandages and noted that she was almost healed. She healed almost as fast as me. Major wounds took me a day or less. Small cuts maybe a minute or two. Momma Dee grabbed all the bits and headed to go throw them away and put the medic kit away. "Ma Cháñte, would you like to walk out that way?" I stood, leaning back against the railing. "You would take me out there?" I seen her surprised expression. "Of course I would." I smiled. This was the most I have ever smiled. It still amazed me I could do it. "I am not sure," I seen her get uneasy. I figured new to her was a big step. So perhaps a little one. "How about we sit here on the stairs and look at the sunset?" I took a couple steps up to her and held out my hand. I seen a volley of of emotions play across that cute face of hers. Finally it looked like she came to her decision. "Ok," She finally answered. Turning slowly, she lowered her feet gently checking to see if they hurt. Noticing they did not she stood up in a fluid graceful movement, I noticed similar to vampire. She slipped her hand into mine nervously and then walked to the top of the stairs. I offered her my arm, as she took each step to the bottom. I sat down as she did on the bottom step. I watched her gingerly place her feet on the grass. Realizing it was soft I smiled to my self. She leaned down and ran her hand across it. She was still learning about the world outside the cell she had grown up in. "Grass is always soft on the toes." I started taking off my boots and socks. I placed the socks in the boots and stood. Walking around I showed the bottom of my feet to her. "Would you like to try it?" I stopped, held out my hand to her again. Again a wide range of emotions flew across her face, shock, fear, and eagerness. I seen her place both feet on the grass. She looked down and she wiggled them. Looking back up I seen her lift her hand to mine. She stood slowly. Taking a slow gentle step and then another she let go of mine to skip around. I stopped to just watch her. It was beautiful to see her bliss, as she felt free. No walls, no shoes with the freedom to experience it. I heard her giggle again as she ran a little. I was musical. I stared as her eyes filled with happiness. She spun, as she slowed down she went to topple over. I got to her before she fell to far. Her eyes looked up into mine, I felt my chest warm up and tighten. I straightened her and then dropped my hands from her waist. Taking her hand I lead her back to the stairs, she lowered her eyes. Taking a strand of hair that was floating around her face and tucking it behind her ear. I heard her say, "Thank you." She settled at the bottom of the stairs and looked at the ground near her feet. "I am glad you got to have fun," I smiled and settled down not far from her. I could see her still looking down. "Can I ask why you always look down?" I heard myself say. She said nothing for a long while. I didn't chase it. I was about to figure she would not answer, when she sighed deep. Looking up she looked into my eyes, "I was locked away for a long time. I am pretty sure not looking at the people who held me is what kept me alive." She looked back at the ground again. I knew that was a huge statement for her. I could understand why she thought that. Using my finger, I tipped her chin up a little to look at me. "Tradition from my people, was we looked at those we respected, while we did not look at the ones we don't respect. I understand what you have told me and what it means to you. But this is my way of showing you how much I respect you." I took my index finger from her chin to see her look at my eyes. I was not sure what she was searching for. I seen she relaxed some. "I did not know," She breathed while she looked at my eyes. Smiling I replied, "Not many do," then winked. I seen her smile and look back at the ground. Pretty sure it was to hide her blush. I let her have it. The last rays of the sun hit her hair causing it to look like flashing array of crazy oranges and reds. It reminded me of sunsets years ago before "progress" came to the land. "How long have you been around?" I heard her ask. I seen her green eyes glance at me shyly. "Mato told me he is 900 years old." I could see she was very curious. "Some where over a few thousand." I shrugged. I watched her eyes grow wide with surprise. "A... A... F-few thousand," she stammered. "Yep, I am not sure the year I was born or the day. We did not keep track like they do now." I shrugged. "oh," she whispered and looked back at the ground. "I am not sure how old I am either." She shrugged with a defeated sigh. Glancing up she added, "pretty sure I am not a few thousand though." She gave a weak smile. "Age is nothing," I grinned back. "Its the time and memoires you build." I waved my hand at how all the people were enjoying different things. Her attention turned to those people. I watched a larger smile play her lips. "One day I can make memories like that." The wistful air about it, gave me the urge to wrap my arms around her and hug her. I didn't though. It was way to soon, and it needed to be her idea not mine.
