Don't Chase Shadows

Amber POV Hawk told me to stay in the room, he went down to talk to Mato, and grab up food. You could see how much Dex scurrying off into the woods where we would have been bugged him. We were late, having slept in. I showered and did my morning routine. By the time I did, Hawk was in the room with a tray of food and a couple of the history books I had not read. "How did you know, I had not read these?" I looked up at him surprised. "I have kept a memory of each one you have picked up so far." He shrugged and continued to eat his eggs. My jaw dropped. I could feel my chest tighten. He was making sure I was up to date with my reading. I touched his hand, his brown eyes met mine. "Thank you." I smiled. I finished my plate and settled in with one of the books he brought up. He had braided his hair before he went down. It always made me feel sad. I like it flowing around him. "What did Mato say?" I asked him peeking up from my book. "He said, he had been doing that now several days." I watched him walk back to the window. "What do you think he is up to?" I was curious. "Likely to see an opening to grab you." He growled. "You think so?" I had seen him watching me a lot. His friends had left, while he stayed here. "You sure its not to try to fight you again?" I wondered. "Perhaps, but its not me he watches. Its you." He said. "I may set a trap." He paused, "would you trust me to keep you safe?" He turned from the window to kneel down near me. "Of course," I closed the book. "You have not let anything bad get close including my dreams." I smiled. Hawk's hand reached out, brushing my wet hair from my face, "if I could keep them away I would do that too." His words going straight to my heart. I smiled, closing my eyes I leaned in. "I know." I whispered. "I have never known anyone like you." Hawks lips brushed my forehead. "I want to kiss you again." His murmured near my forehead. I titled my head up, placing my book down I brushed my finger tips up his chest and then lightly placed them on his jaw. "I would like one." I breathed, my eyes closed and lips waiting. I felt his head lower a bit and the heat of his skin just milimeters from my lips. His breath danced along my lips the closer he got. My hands slipping behind his neck as his arms snaked around my waist pulling me closer. I felt his lips crash on mine, while he scooted me against him. My body, reeled at the pleasure of his lips and hands on me. I had never felt this before. I was lost, as we sunk I realized I was sitting in his lap on the floor, my back brushing the side of the bed. We came up for air shortly after that. "I have never felt anything like that," He uttered softly as his forehead touched mine. "Neither have I" my awe struck words matched his. Both panting and not wanting to let the other go. The knock at the door, is what had us move. Hawks arms fell away, as I scrambled off his lap back to the bed and book. He stood, looking at the door, "come in" he grunted. One of the kitchen staff stood near the door way, "I was sent to come collect the dishes." wary shrug to Hawk. "Go ahead." Hawk walked back to the window. His back to us as he watched. I dropped my nose in the book, went back to staring at the first word on the page. My heart still hammering in my chest, while I could still feel his lips on mine, his arms pulling me closer. I closed my eyes to try to shake my thoughts to focus on the book. It wasn't happening. My focus was totally disturbed. The door closed, I opened my eyes to see Hawk, slowly making his way back to me. "You ok?" His worried gaze landing on me. "I am ," I smiled. "Just nerves." He squeezed my hand, and kissed my forehead. "Your mine, anything we do is no one else's concern." His tone soft, but filled with authority. "Don't worry what they think." He brushed his fingers against my cheek. "Easier said then done," I leaned into his touch closing my eyes. I felt him scoop me up, I yelped a little in surprise as he placed me in his lap. "Then I shall hold you til the nerves go away." He kissed the top of my head. I giggled, and snuggled closer as I grabbed my book to start reading. My nerves disappearing instantly. ********* So time later, Hawk left again and went down for snadwiches. "I think I have a plan." He smirked. "What are you thinking?" I closed and marked my book to ask. "I am thinking its time to scare him a little." munched on his sandwich. We will leave early before day break. When the kitchen staff are just getting there. That way if he asks them they will say we left." He paused, grabbing my hand. "I am going to have you stay hidden in our little area. I will release my beast to stand watch. I don't think he knows I shift. So when he comes to find us, I will stop him. Then come back to you." Hawk picked up my hand, kissing it. "Nothing with touch you but me." his eyes solid in their look, let me know he was serious. "Ok," I nodded. "You sure you he can't hurt you?" That little part that worried to ask him. "There is nothing that can stop me from coming back to you." He promised. Plucking the book from my hands, scooping me up into his arms. Everything that worried me was suddenly gone again, like it never existed. I wrapped my arms around neck and cuddled against him as my feet dangled off the floor.
