I leaned against the wall outside the barracks, trying to breathe evenly. The cool evening air did little to settle the fire burning inside me. That kiss—Skyler’s lips, her touch—had been far more than I expected. I hadn’t meant to push her like that. Hell, I hadn’t even meant to kiss her, not really.
But when I saw her running, her face a mixture of confusion and something else I couldn’t quite place, I acted on instinct. It wasn’t just the bond pulling me toward her... it was something deeper. Something primal.
