I marched across the training field, my fists clenched at my sides. I’m a man here, Sky. A man. I repeated the words in my head like a mantra, willing them to overpower the chaotic swirl of emotions threatening to take over. There was no time for confusion or... whatever the hell had happened with Noah. I couldn’t afford to think about it, not now, not ever again.
I’d come to the academy to fight for my people, to prove that I could be strong, not to be distracted by... those feelings. I wasn’t here to be weak. I wasn’t here to be anything other than Skyler, the Beta team’s leader. I was a soldier. And soldiers didn’t get caught up in romantic nonsense.
