"Why don't you sign?" The company will forgive that sixty million yuan debt once the deal is complete. Everything will be better if you do it, the vice-chairman insisted, his voice full of panic. He was under a lot of stress because he needed my approval by noon. He didn't have time left. I was standing right in front of him with my pen on the paper. I didn't move, though.
As I carefully put down the pen, I kept his eyes on me. His temper was getting short, but I could tell he was trying to stay calm.
He tried to sound nice as he said, "Just tell me what you want, and we'll make it happen."
I looked over at my lawyer, who was sitting next to him. I told him, "I want him gone." "He should never set foot in Emperor Entertainment again."
The room went silent. My agent looked quickly from me to the vice-chairman, and his eyes were filled with fear. "Seraphina," he stuttered, his face turning pale, "isn't that... a bit too much?" I've been nice to you all along."
"Good?" I could taste how bitter that word was and almost spat it out. When I spoke to the vice-chairman again, I kept my cool. "All right? Is it possible?"
It was clear that the vice-chairman was uncomfortable, but he still nodded. "Y-yes, of course," he said, looking briefly at my agent. "You're fired." Starting right away."
It looked like the agent had been hit. His face was twisted with shock, which quickly turned into fear. He got down on his knees and clenched his hands in pain. He pleaded, "Please, Lancaster," but his voice broke. "Don't do that." Please be kind to me just this once."
I only looked at him briefly. I picked up the pen again and held it just above the line, enjoying how tense the room was.
The vice chairman almost begged, "My dear empress, if you have any other requests, please—let us know."
I smiled at him secretly. "In fact, yes." Vivian needs to say sorry to me. In person. She stole several of my jobs and left me with a scar on my shoulder. The stress turned into a weight that felt good on my shoulders. "I haven’t forgotten anything."
There was a headache-like look on the vice-chairman's face. He appeared to understand that he had no choice. He agreed with a tired sigh. "Okay. I'm going to call her right now. Could you stop everything when she gets there?"
I looked at my nails while ignoring the agent who was still bowed down at my feet. I wasn't going to easily forget his betrayal after the last night when he tried to give me to Conrad. It wasn't easy to forgive.
Vivian showed up twenty minutes later. She looked like she had been through a storm. She wasn't at all like the glamorous person she usually was; the press had worn her down.
The vice-chairman's voice was rough from being impatient as he told Vivian to say sorry to Lancaster. "Do something nice. Lancaster wants to help us clean up, but if she doesn't agree..." He stopped talking and gave Vivian a deep look that seemed to promise something in the future.
While her arms were folded, Vivian looked at us both. "Why should I apologize to her?"
I stood up and carefully watched her. "It looks like you'll have to find another way to do this," I said as I walked toward the door.
The vice-chairman could no longer hold back any longer. He yelled, "I said I'm sorry, Vivian!" "I'll put you on a blacklist if you don't." You're already prone to gossip, and I can make sure it stays.
Her face lit up with anger for a moment, but only for a moment. Not being able to speak, she whispered "Sorry."
I kept quiet and watched her move around. "Who are you apologizing to?"
Her eyes were red with anger. "Who do you think you are?" she yelled, her voice full of disdain. "You wouldn't be sitting here if Sebas hadn't made threats." Everything was set up by the company, so why are you mad at me?"
My smile went away. "Are you sure about that?" You've already missed your last shot.
I took out my phone and called Sebas, putting the call on speaker. I spoke my name, "Sebas," into the phone.
"Ning-ning?" The room was filled with his warm voice.
"Vivian won't say sorry," I said, trying to sound innocent and hurt.
The vice-chairman and Vivian both stopped moving and looked scared.
"Oh, really?" Sebas's voice got darker. "Do not worry. I still have the longer version of the video of her "encounter." I'll make plans for—"
Vivian lunged at me and grabbed my arm before he could say anything else. "Seraphina, I was wrong!" I'm sorry! Sebas, please stop. Don't let him let it go."
I laughed as I took my arm off. "And who’s worthless now?"
Vivian got down on her knees, pushed my ex-agent away, and begged, "I'm the useless one." Just tell Sebas to stop, please."
I looked down at her, happy about the change in power, and felt completely satisfied.
"What exactly is your relationship with Sebas?" asked the vice-chairman, who looked shaken.
I smiled slowly so that what I said would stick. "Oh, I forgot to say that. He is my brother. He looks out for others and takes getting even very seriously. He's very angry that you and Theodore tried to hurt me.
His face lost all of its blood. "No, that's not possible." Why would he go public with that story about you and the married director if he were your brother?"
I gave a shrug. "Easy. I had to get out of my engagement to Theodore. That was known by my brother. He knows a lot more about Theodore's...business.If Emperor Entertainment tried to bring me down, how do you think I'll repay them?"
"Lancaster, please—" he begged as he reached for me.
I took a step back and brushed his hand off as if it were nothing. Looking around the room, I saw faces that were a mix of shock and fear. I told them, "Just so you know, this afternoon the news will have something even bigger." I promise it will be much more exciting.
That was it! I walked out with my head held high, feeling like a queen leaving her slain country. I could hear the vice-chairman hurriedly calling Theodore's number from behind me.
"Vice-chairman, don't—" the spy tried to stop him.
"Out of my way!" he yelled, his voice getting angrier.
In a whisper, my ex-agent said, "Listen to me!" "If you keep trying to get in touch with Theodore, you'll kill us." Alistair is on Seraphina's side and is keeping her safe.
The vice-chairman yelled, "You're fired!" and pushed him away.
The agent mumbled, "You'll regret this," and then fell to the ground in failure.
Soon after, the cops showed up and swarmed the office. Employees were frozen with shock as the vice-chairman was handcuffed and taken away. He was shocked by reality, and his face showed it. What made them think I wasn't as good as I was?
Afterward, I sat back with a glass of wine at home and thought about how shocked and horrified they looked. Their lack of belief... I laughed so hard I cried.
Sébas' voice came through when my phone rang. "Ning-ning, Emperor Entertainment is under investigation as we speak."
I smiled and stirred my wine. "I wonder who helped me with my little revenge."
When the line went dead, I remembered a recent discussion. My heart skipped a beat, and I stood up straight. Sergeant, I believe Alistair played a part in this. He asked about Emperor Entertainment last night.
"Oh?" Sebas's voice became interested.
"He paid me sixty million to stay at his house. "I believe he is on our side."
