Crashing and Burning
Korra POV
Smoke filled my lungs as I struggled and clawed towards the gaps where the light was shining through. 'Foolish' was the only word that sat on repeat in my mind. So foolish I was to expose myself for what? A measly loaf of bread.. At the time I couldn't help myself, it'd been days since my last meal and I could feel my stomach eating away at itself. I couldn't think of that right now though, I had been caught trying to steal the loaf of bread by some of the palaces guards and in the chaos of it all I revealed my wings.
For years long before I or even my parents were born there has been a hierarchy of sorts. Those born with blue wings generally fall into a medical role, if you have green wings you're generally more in touch with the land and tend to become farmers or herbalists. Red wings? well they're generally some of the best fighters and become guards or police or soldiers. Yellow are the teachers and the other colours are generally the more lower class citizens. Only the absolute highest class are born with white wings. People say it resembles their purity and strength. Royalty are ALWAYS born with white wings and golden speckles through them. They have always been stronger, faster and smarter than the rest of us, making it nearly impossible for anyone to ever take the crown from them.
Lastly there are a very rare number of people that have been born with pure black wings. Those born with black wings are known to be crazy powerful and dangerous. To kill a being with black wings can change others wings to white, thus we have been hunted to near extinction.
For years I had managed to hide the fact that I bore black wings however in a split second under pressure I had managed to show this entire village what I am. I can sense that the guards are all around the rubble and burning ashes of the now destroyed building I tried to hide in and I'll be extremely lucky if I managed to have not broken anything when it collapsed ontop of me. I continue to claw at the surface of the rubble, coughing and choking on the thick layer of smoke in the air. I can feel a deep gash in my right thigh and both of my wings feel crushed under the weight of the rubble. This was the last thing I remember before darkness took over and I passed out.
