The Arrest
As she slowly opened her eyes, the bright light from the doorway pierced through the darkness illuminating the familiar face of her boyfriend, Ethan, lying beside her. But the scene quickly turned chaotic as loud voices and footsteps filled the room. Before she process what was happening the police rushed in and surrounded Ethan's bed.
"Ethan, get up! you're under arrest for the murder of Sarah Jenkins"One of the offices shouted, handcuff gleaming in the dim light.
Her mind tracing she sat up with a jolt, pulling the covers tightly around her. "What? No, this can't be right! Ethan won't hurt anyone", she exclaimed, her voice shaking with panic and confusion.
The officers doesn't seem to notice her distress as the red Ethan his rights and pulled him out of bed. Ethan's eyes locked into hers filled with a mix of fear, apology and reassurance. "I will be fine"he mouted but the fear in His eyes told him a different story.
She felt like she had been punched in the guts, her breath caught in her throat. This couldn't be happening. Ethan was a kind, gentle soul. He would never commit such a heinous crime. As the reality of the situation sunk in she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She had to get out of bed how to do something but her body felt heavy, unresponsive.
With a surge of adrenali, she threw up the covers and rushed to Ethan's side "Wait! You can't just take him away without explaining anything. What's going on she demanded her voice rising in desperation.
The officers gently but firmly guided her back "Ma'am, please step aside we'll need to ask you some questions downstairs.
As Ethan was dragged away, still in handcuffs, she felt a cold thread creeping up her spine. She was left standing in the bedroom, her world turned upside down. How could this be happening? And what about Ethan's protest of innocence? Could he really be telling the truth?
With a new found determination she quickly got dressed and rushed to downstairs to find out more about the situation and how she could help Ethan. This was a nightmare and she was determined to wake up from it. But for now she had to face the reality that Ethan's freedom and their relationship hung in the balance.
