38Vince walked out of the ward, disgusted with himself for being such a bastard, but hoping his bastardry had done the job. The morning was getting on, so he raced around the wards and finished up at the Day Stay Unit to put in a drip for a patient who was having chemotherapy. As he was leaving the ward, he got a page from the hospital switchboard—a patient on ward six wanted to talk to him. ‘Yes!’ Vince said out loud, punching the air as he turned and raced up the stairs again.
