33Vince got up early the next morning, pulled on his board shorts and windcheater, and staggered outside. It was clear the only person who could get him out of this mess was himself, and he needed to apply the blowtorch. As he opened the back door he was greeted by a gust of icy wind that almost pushed him back to the warmth of his bed. Even though it was spring, Warrnambool was experiencing a cold snap, and he kept his head down as he lifted up the red and white roller door at the front of his modest garage. Deefer appeared next to him, shaking herself, confused by his appearance so early in the morning. Vince threw his board and wetsuit into the back of the car and Deef jumped up into her usual position. ‘Have to brush the cobwebs off the old board, Deef. Haven’t been out for a while.’
