Prologue
The dreamy sky was shifting with the aurora, trailing and dancing with steps unforeseen and unforgettable. Leavings pixie dust behind, falling like raindrops.
The landscape of violet stretched further with no end, wondering me if such changes is a norm for one who had two souls.
The human and the inhuman.
I never knew what to call her, nor her origin because she uttered very little. Lesser than a toddler.
A gush of wind blew, bringing a scent so entrancing that I found myself following it. It was a freshness found when one stood under the sun in the early morning filled with mist.
The wet grasses greeted my approach, grazing my feet and leaving trails of its chilliness on my skin.
Beneath the tree where I used to nap, waiting for me to resurface rest a lad with sinful beauty.
If I didn't know better, I would be hogging his silky-golden lock of hair, wanting to sell them for a gold or two for a living. Each strand looks insanely pricey.
Oh, God.
I slid down the slopes, landing softly on the ground that drowned me in its softness.
Lights that touched his skin were reflected perfectly, making me wonder if I guessed his gender correctly and when the thick eyelashes
fluttered, I forgot to breathe.
Inside the world of ruby-like madness, I was in there, sucked in, reflecting to see my own.
'Mate...'
My mind chanted, or the other me said it. I wouldn't know because a sudden hauling storm forced me to shut my eyes, blinking out of the dream world.
I had returned to the real world where I alone stood in darkness, companied by the soundless forest and black sky like the devil's soul.
In my hand was a dull knife tainted with blood.
The carcass beneath my feet was drained out of blood, immediately awakening the metallic taste in my mouth.
"For God's sake, how did you hunt? Why so messy?!"
I let out a long sigh and crouched down. My fingers trailed on the carcass, shoving it to the side and noting the bite mark tearing its neck was...
My doing.
'Our' doing.
I ran my knife along the nape line, making a clean cut for parts for myself and to be sold off at the market.
"Mate?"
I scoffed to myself and put the parts into the basket that was holed here and there for long years, sliding my arm on the sling and lifting my body.
"Weird dream, but..." I paused, tucking the knife on my waist. "A decent dream for once."
Soft footsteps echoed from the dark branches on the canopies around me, drawing closer and closer until her silhouette appeared.
Meow.
"Hello, kitty. What are you doing in the dark alone? Want to come with me?" The cat followed my lead.
"I will feed you something good."
Little that I know that more eyes were watching from the dark and unseen. Calling me to where I belonged... home.
