“Ha!” I’d cried, triumphant, when my final burst had connected, and I’d set into motion my last desperate plan. Then I’d watched with growing horror as the scene played out, as the silvers grew and morphed into a creature of immense destruction. For a moment, I worried they would damage the gate, but the center of the sun was too far away and the gate itself was much too old for there to be much risk. Instead, I abandoned my fear for the gate as I realized I needed to be worried for myself. “Oh, perg it all,” I muttered as I saw the silvers’ blast expanding toward me, tendrils l*****g about like twisted tongues searching to feed a hideous maw.
