Chapter ThirtyD'Angelo decided sometime during the middle of his conversation with Rico that he would need reinforcements. Years ago if Forester hadn't interceded, he would have confronted Rico one on one without a moment's thought. But in those days his hatred of Rico was both blind and stupid. Although he still hated Rico just as intensely as he did then – perhaps more – at this moment reason had largely replaced emotion, and with the perspective of time, he realized that by getting between him and Rico, Forester had surely saved his life. He was a match for most people but not for Rico.
