Chapter Thirty-ThreeAfter Rico left Jean's apartment, he drove to his own and circled his block twice before parking on the next street. Walking to his apartment he encountered no one. From the hall outside his apartment, he checked the lock to his door and saw no visible signs of forced entry, which he knew, of course, provided little assurance that D'Angelo hadn't tried to break in or succeeded in doing so. He could pick a lock as well as Rico could. Once inside, however, he satisfied himself that nothing was amiss and quickly left. Five minutes later D'Angelo drove down Rico's street looking for his car. Rico didn't bother checking out either D'Angelo's apartment or The Five Aces.
