Chapter 1
The Science Fair
It began as an idea that would change the world but it all started at birth. The day Ben was born he felt strange as if he had been put in a deep sleep. When he woke up he could walk, talk, and he understood the periodic table; one of the hardest things to master in science. Ben's mother passed away at birth so life had been hard at the age of two. When his mother died, Ben inherited her super genius. And at the science fair Ben finds out that his cloning machine doesn’t work unless he has a sample of DNA. Once he tried to do it at home and he could because he was near his father, but now, near the judges and Aaron, he cannot charge up his cloning device.
8 Years Later
“Give it back Aaron, it’s mine, not yours!” I yelled while standing on the platform on top of the grave in which my mother was buried. My cloning device could bring my mother back to life, I thought as I walked by my very slow friend Aaron. “Hey, Aaron, race you back to our bikes,” I said as I started putting the pieces together. I couldn’t bring back my mom but I could charge up the ray when I was near her. What if maybe I could charge near family but not friends? A little voice in my head said ”You’re wrong, you will never be able to bring back the dead.” But little did I know that invention changed my life.
Mrs. Cartwell the ELA teacher always likes to hear about my ideas and help, but for some reason she is very quiet today. I like going to school and sharing ideas with people who care, and want to help just like my father said my mom did. Mrs.C is actually called one of the meanest people in the school, but that’s why I don’t get on her wrong side. In my opinion, Mr. Dalphy, the science teacher, is the meanest person in the school. All Mr.D does is grumble about missing work, scream at students who are two seconds late to class, and whine when someone gets a question wrong. The old guy is turning sixty in two days, so hopefully he retires because I can’t handle it anymore.
Chapter 2
Teacher Conference
“I’m so nervous for what the teacher has to say about me, Dad.” said Ben.
And to be honest ever since Christy died I haven’t had time to help Ben with his homework. Right now I am going to try to argue with his teachers at the teacher conferences to move him up to a higher grade level. Ben has been spending too much time in his room learning something new. I think it would be way better if he didn’t have to learn something new every day if he already is.
The teachers said to my dad that it would be fine. They said only to middle school. I did not want to leave my school. I love it, all of my friends are there and I was fine learning new things by myself. I like that so much more. I might be a super genius but I still want to be with my friends. Meanwhile my dad is making me throw a ball with him. I’d rather be learning in my room. Well as long as my dad is happy I’m happy.
I can’t believe Ben is finally outside with me, I thought this day would never come. I thought to myself as we walked inside for a fresh batch of lemonade.
Throwing this ball won’t allow me to see Aaron. Without my friend I can’t share ideas.
Chapter 3
Behind
Ben seems like he’s always doing something, whether it’s, homework, throwing a darned ball, or testing out his inventions. I understand that he’s different, but I have a life too. If only I could make him make a machine that made me smarter, maybe even as smart as him! If this keeps up he’ll be in the top 1% and I’ll be in the low 5%. I wish that he cared about me for once.
“Aaron!” I said as I ran towards him on Candlestone Rd. “Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you for the past five hours! I thought you were a goner!”
“Well look at this, I’m alive and well aren’t I? Now, let me keep walking in peace.” Totally ignoring me, Ben talks about how this slingshot he built should shoot faster than a bullet, because of the wood, leather and leverage he used. Why can’t he keep his ideas to himself? I went home shortly after Ben found me and I ended up getting a call from him.
“Sorry for the way I’ve been acting Aaron, I really want you to hear my ideas. But I need
to let you talk every once and awhile, or vice versa!” That call really made me think, is he saying that because his dad noticed how unacceptable he was being or is he SMART enough to realize that he isn’t letting his friend speak.
Chapter 4
The Memory Pen
I’m so excited! Today I finally get my mother’s pen, my dad said it’s so priceless! As me and my dad walked into my mothers dream room I saw a note. To Ben; I hope you know that I love you no matter what, but most importantly The Memory Pen! With this pen you will be able to write something down, circle the thing you wrote down, and you remember that “thing.” One last thing, I made the pen bring things to life. I wondered What could “bring things to'' mean? Maybe bring things to life, but that would be physically impossible.
I went to school and Aaron had some really cool ideas for inventions, Launcher X1Z,Shoots you up into the air and puts bat DNA in you so that you can fly. But I think he’s trying to use me. So we just kept quiet until I remembered about The Memory Pen. I tried to tell Aaron about it, but he said, “If this is about one of your ideas I don’t want to hear it!” Okay. That wasn’t what I wanted to happen but I deserved it. “This is my mom’s pen, I want to tell you how this can help you!”
“What does the pen do?”
“Whatever you circle you remember, FOREVER.”
“Y-you would l-l-let me use it for studying?”
“You are my friend Aaron, of course I would.” I said, afterall he could end up being my brother from another mother if he becomes as smart as me. When I got home I called Aaron and asked if he wanted to come over, and of course he said “YES!”. So, Aaron came over and we tried the pen. First, Aaron circled the periodic table, then, Aaron circled what nomadic means. Ben said “ Alright, now, it’s my turn.” Then, Ben circled everything on the map. Once Ben did that, his brain flooded with new thoughts and new things he never knew before.
Chapter 5
My Friend
In S.S. Today we studied maps, my favorite! After last night I learned a lot, I circled the periodic table and guess what, I knew it as soon as I circled it! The map, oh the map; Did you know that The towns of Beatosu and Goblu, Ohio, are also examples of paper towns, although they weren't necessarily, but who cares about that. You know what, I’ll tell you how I learned this information. Just yesterday I went to Ben’s house to share my ideas. Before I went over I felt really stupid, but now, I’m as smart as your ELA teacher.
I used a pen. The End. Hahahaha, hooo boy you should have seen your face! Here’s what actually happened; First, Ben called me over for a thing that he got from his mother, believe it or not, it was the pen! Also, just a reminder, Ben is the smart one so I had no idea why he called me (The Not So Smart Guy) over. Did you know that Ben’s mom's friend was the commander of the Navy? I, one day, want to be a Marine so that I can work with one of my friend’s mom’s friend. But, come to think of it, I don’t know if that big old soul will still be alive!
“Alright class, we are going to learn the Periodic Table today” Mr. Dalphy said as he passed out the worksheets. Ben gave me a quick glance almost like he was saying “ We just learned that last night Aaron.” It’s almost like a coincidence!”
Chapter 6
The Portal Of Captivity
Since my teacher told us we were learning about the periodic table I circled it and I knew all about it. After school me and Ben were circling everything in sight. Until something happened, it exploded, Aaron and I flew across the room. We got right back up to see that there was a portal right in front of our faces. Aaron and I struggled to walk through the portal until I jumped in and Aaron jumped with me. We walked across this weird new world and then the portal closed. We tried our best to open it but it was gone and we were trapped in a different dimension.
We ran across the new world looking for help and then I saw this figure walking towards us. It got closer and closer until I knew who it was. It was Ben’s mom. She was here the whole time she told us her story how she knew that the memory pen would break and that I would finally find her. It worked and I am so happy she is right in front of me. I thought I would never see her again but then I thought how did she get here in the first place. She told him that her and Ben's dad got into a fight when Ben was little and she moved out. When my mom moved out she discovered new things that no one knows about. For example, time travel, my mom said that she time traveled too much and when she tried to time travel it brought her to this world and then she was stuck here for a long time. Later on she met this soldier named Sterling Montana who was the commander of the army. This commander was very mean, or so everybody said; when my mom met Sterling she was scared at first but now he is her BFFEAF(Best Friends For Eternity And Forever) and they are inseparable. After a while we started to get used to being in another dimension even though it was very hot. This place was very hard to describe but here’s what it looked/sounded like; red dirt, screaming of the old army ghosts on the broken down battlefield, the cries of mothers when they lose their husbands to war, lava lakes, lava falls and muggy skies and air.
Chapter 7
How to Get Out
So I finally found my mother but she got kind of nervous about my friends and asked “Who are they?”. After a whole discussion about my new friends, her “dying”, etc. etc. etc, we still did not know how to get out of this dimension. Mom said we have to make a new portal and to do that one of us will have to stay here forever. We stood there for a while wondering what to do. We thought about it and said we should not even try something so bad. Until I said I will do it. I was dumb to say it but it was to late we have already started making the portal. My mom argued with me but for some reason I kept my ground. I did not even think of staying there forever. When we finished I was the one to hold the portal together. They turned it on and I felt pain rushing through my body. When I saw them walk through the portal I started to cry. I started holding it together and then realized I would never see my family again. I tried for years. There was no way back. Or so I thought!
Chapter 8
No Way Back
I have been here for 8 years. I tried putting the portal back together but there was no life on the planet to help me. I've lived off of tiny pieces of grass, dirt, and ice. It has been a hard life. I still never give up though. It is just one thing. I walked almost around the entire planet and there still was no sign of life. Until one day. It was this person with a weird shaped head and he was very tall. He came over to me and as he came over to me I noticed the portal was not to a new world it was to the future. I saw people coming up behind him. I also noticed that the weird shaped head was not his head at all, it was a helmet. I thought this was the end of me. Until I saw the sword that my mom made before she left and I picked it up and battled. As I started to run at them I noticed people were behind me. They were on my team. I jumped in the air, slashing my sword everywhere and then there it wasThe PORTAL!
