Ivy Hayes has always prided herself on being independent. At twenty-five, she’s finally living on her own, carving out a life free from the expectations of her overprotective family. Love? That was never part of the plan. She’s seen relationships fall apart, watched people lose themselves in the process, and decided long ago that love,if it even exists, isn’t worth the risk. Then she meets Noah WestNoah is quiet, intense, and deeply guarded. He’s the kind of man who doesn’t let people in easily, and that suits Ivy just fine. Their worlds collide in the most unexpected way, and from the start, there’s something different about him, something that makes her question everything she thought she knew about love.Neither of them were looking for this. Neither of them believed they needed anyone. But as their connection deepens, Ivy realizes she’s never felt anything like this before. It’s raw, it’s undeniable, and it terrifies her. Because for the first time, she isn’t just living for herself, she’s falling. But love isn’t just about falling. It’s about trust, about vulnerability, about letting someone see the parts of you that you keep hidden. And for Ivy and Noah the biggest question isn’t whether they love each other. It’s whether they’re willing to risk everything for it.Because love wasn’t in their plans.Until it became their only certainty.

Chapter one
Ivy Hayes stood at the edge of the bustling city street, her fingers gripping the straps of her leather bag as she observed the chaos around her. New York. The city was alive, pulsing with energy, filled with people who were constantly in motion. Ivy felt like an outsider at first glance, but she was determined not to let the city swallow her whole. She had a plan. A plan that didn't include distractions, love, or anything that could derail her carefully structured life. Her apartment, though small, was hers. Her first step toward independence. Ivy had spent years saving up for this moment. The sleek, modern space in the heart of the city reflected her desire for control, minimalistic, clean, yet functional. She had it all mapped out: work, personal growth, maybe even a few friendships. But love? Love wasn’t even a footnote in her plans. She had seen how messy it could be, how it could pull people apart instead of keeping them whole. No, she didn’t need it. Not now. It was her first full day in New York, and she had already woken up early, determined to make the most of it. After unpacking, setting up her small desk by the window, and checking out nearby coffee shops, she decided to take a walk. The streets buzzed with life, strangers, tourists, and locals, each absorbed in their own worlds. She walked briskly, her mind focused on the future, never lingering on the past. As she passed a coffee shop, something caught her attention,a pair of dark eyes staring out from a corner seat by the window. Ivy’s gaze locked onto them before she could stop herself. There was something magnetic about them. It wasn’t just the color or the way they seemed to hold a quiet intensity. It was the depth. She blinked, breaking the connection, and hurried her pace, trying to ignore the pulse of curiosity that had already taken root. “I should keep moving” she told herself. “Focus on what you’re here for” But as if drawn by some invisible force, Ivy found her steps slowing, a tiny voice in her head whispering that she hadn’t finished with that moment just yet. She turned her head ever so slightly, hoping to catch a glimpse of the man who owned those eyes. Noah West sat quietly by the window, his coffee cup half-empty as his eyes traced the busy street outside. His thoughts were scattered,he wasn’t really thinking about anything specific. He’d come to the coffee shop to escape the noise of his own mind, but it never worked. His life, the routine, the walls he had built around his heart,it all seemed suffocating sometimes. But today, for some reason, he felt a strange pull, like he couldn’t escape the weight of someone’s gaze. He shifted in his seat, unsure why, but then his eyes locked with hers. A woman passing by the window, just a glance, but it felt like a spark, an electric charge. She had that look, intense, like she was seeing him for more than he was. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but he felt… challenged. She stared back, unblinking. He couldn’t look away either. The tension between them grew for a few seconds, and just when he thought it was getting too strange, she smirked. It was a small, confident smile. Like she had won. Without thinking, Noah quickly broke the stare and stood up, brushing past her as he moved out of the shop. He didn’t know why, but his heart was racing. He hadn’t expected to be so thrown off by a simple exchange of glances. What was that? As Ivy continued down the street, she let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding. Her mind replayed the strange moment, how she had stared, how he had looked back, how the entire encounter had been… odd. She shook her head, trying to shrug it off. It was nothing. But deep down, something about it unsettled her. Ivy was someone who knew exactly what she wanted and had never been distracted by something so trivial as a fleeting glance. So why was she still thinking about it? She picked up her pace and walked into the nearby bookstore, hoping the familiar scent of paper and quiet would settle her mind. But as she stepped through the door, she couldn’t shake the image of his eyes. That brief moment had turned into something more than she expected, and she wasn’t sure she liked it. Ivy exhaled and shook her head, determined to push the strange encounter out of her mind. It was nothing, she reminded herself. Just an odd moment with a stranger. Nothing worth lingering on. As she moved past the coffee shop, she spotted a library at the corner of the street and felt an instant sense of relief. Books. That was what she needed, something to ground her, something familiar. She was still new in town, with nothing to do just yet. Not that she minded. She had always enjoyed her own company, and getting lost in a good book was the perfect way to spend her first evening. Stepping inside, she was met with the comforting scent of old pages and polished wood. The soft rustling of paper filled the air, and Ivy smiled to herself. This was peace. She made her way to the fiction section, running her fingers along the spines of the books, before pulling out a couple of titles that intrigued her. "You’re new here, aren’t you?" Ivy turned to see a lady, probably in her early twenties, smiling warmly at her. She had dark curls pulled into a messy bun and carried a stack of books in one arm. "Is it that obvious?" Ivy chuckled. The lady laughed. "A little. I work here, so I kind of know all the regulars." She shifted her books and extended a hand. "I’m Emily. Welcome to the best library in the city." Ivy shook her hand, appreciating her friendly energy. "Thanks. I’m Ivy. Just moved in today, actually." "Oh, then you definitely need a good book haul," Emily grinned. "Trust me, nothing helps you settle into a new place like getting completely lost in a story." Ivy nodded. "That’s exactly what I was thinking.” Emily helped her pick out a few more books, chatting about her favorites and giving Ivy a quick rundown of the best reading spots in town. They exchanged numbers before Ivy checked out her books and headed home, feeling lighter than before. Back at her apartment, Ivy tossed her keys on the kitchen counter and dropped the books onto the small coffee table. She took a moment to take in her new space. It wasn’t much, minimalist, modern, and compact, but it was hers. The living room was simple: a soft gray sofa, a small but sturdy coffee table, and a bookshelf she couldn’t wait to fill. The kitchen was barely a few steps away, but it had all she needed. Her bedroom was neat, her bed covered in crisp white sheets, a single plant sitting by the window. It was peaceful. Simple And, most importantly, it was her space. She stretched, kicking off her shoes. Her stomach grumbled, reminding her she hadn’t eaten since breakfast. She wandered into the kitchen, opening the fridge and scanning her limited options. "Hmm… what gourmet meal shall I create tonight?" she muttered to herself, pulling out some bread, cheese, and turkey slices. She grabbed an orange from the counter and a bottle of juice from the fridge. As she slapped the sandwich together and poured the juice into a glass, she smirked to herself. "What? At least no one is going to complain. This is my house!” She plopped onto the sofa, pulling a book into her lap as she took a bite of her sandwich. The city buzzed outside, but inside, everything was calm. She exhaled, feeling a sense of contentment set over her. Today was a good first day. Well… except for that weird moment with the guy from earlier. Ivy frowned slightly but quickly shook it off. It didn’t matter. It was just one of those random city encounters she’d probably never think about again. She picked up her book and flipped to the first page, letting the words pull her in. Tomorrow, she will start her new job. And she was looking forward to it. Whatever came next, she was ready for it.
