Chapter Six

Monday morning was here, and Ivy was ready. She walked into the K and K corporation with a spring in her step, knowing today was the day she’d work side by side with the tech company’s staff. The office was set up with mixed teams, finance and tech experts sharing ideas around bright, open workstations. Ivy sat at her desk by the window and quickly got to work on her presentation, which would be shown later that day. As she clicked through slides and double-checked her numbers, Ivy’s thoughts drifted back to Saturday. That day had been a pleasant break from her usual routine. She met up with Emily at the park. They strolled along leafy paths, talked about life, work, and family, and shared some laughs. Emily is a really friendly and chatty librarian with a warm smile and she's really pretty too and for a librarian she's quite laid back. Their easy conversation made Ivy feel less alone in the big city, and Emily promised to keep in touch. Back in the office, while Ivy focused on fine-tuning her project, the memory of that casual park walk brought a gentle smile to her face. It was a simple reminder that even busy days could be brightened by a friendly conversation. With her presentation ready for later and the promise of Emily's friendship warming her thoughts, Ivy felt confident and ready to merge her professional world with the little personal joys she was discovering along the way. As the presentation time drew near, Ivy scanned the room. Amid the unfamiliar tech staff faces and then she saw him "Oh my God... what's he doing here" Before she could ponder further, Mr. Rodney called everyone together to form groups for the project presentation. "All right, team," Mr. Rodney announced, "we need balanced groups for our joint project." Ivy joined a group mostly filled with tech staff she hadn’t met before, while most of her finance colleagues clustered in the other group. Feeling a bit out of place and nervous, Ivy quietly approached Mr.Rodney. "Sir, would it be possible to switch groups?" she asked softly. Mr. Rodney smiled and replied, "Sure, Ivy. Let me make a quick change." In a swift move, he swapped Ivy with a guy named Nathan. Just then, a voice cut through the chatter, "What's going on?" Ivy looked up and saw the familiar face now clearly labeled "Noah" on his name tag. It was then she realized exactly who he was. Mr. Rodney explained, "We need to even out our teams. Our finance side is overflowing, and the tech team needs more members." Noah added, "We’re short on tech staff, so balancing the groups makes sense." A few murmurs followed the announcement. In the shuffle, Nathan was switched back to Noah’s group, and Ivy found herself returned to her original team. Though Ivy felt a brief twinge of embarrassment at the fuss, she understood the reasoning behind it. The presentation commenced, and Ivy delivered her part of the proposal with clear confidence. The project proposal was such a hit that it marked the dawn of a significant expansion for both K and K Corporation and the tech company,a collaboration that promised big growth and a bright future for both sides. After the presentation wrapped up and the teams dispersed, Ivy returned to her desk and settled back into her usual office routine. The day had flowed smoothly, emails, small talk, and plenty of data crunching. Before she knew it, the clock read 4:00 PM. It was time to pack up and head home. As Ivy gathered her things and walked toward the door, a gentle voice called out, "Hey, excuse me." Surprised, she turned around to see Noah standing a few steps away. Not quite sure what to expect, she replied, "Hey.” “Ivy right? How's it going?" he asked, his tone friendly. "Not bad," Ivy answered, glancing briefly at him. For a moment, their eyes locked not sure what to say.As though sensing her quiet pause, Noah quickly added, "Listen, I'm really sorry about earlier—I didn’t mean to cut in or make things awkward. We needed an extra analyst, and I just... well, I got caught up in the shuffle.” Ivy paused, processing his apology. A small smile tugged at her lips. "Oh no, it's no problem. I totally get it,it's fine." "Really?" Noah prompted, searching her eyes for reassurance. "Yeah, really," she said. Before Noah could say more, Marvin, one of Ivy's work friends, called out, "Hey Ivy, great job today! Your calculations and analysis were so impressive,it made it easy to understand ." Ivy smiled and waved in acknowledgment. "Thank you, Marvin." Just then, Noah interjected, "You're the one who did the analysis?” Ivy looked at him, a bit surprised. "Yeah, I am.” At that, Noah's eyes lit up with a hint of admiration. "That's impressive," Noah said, his tone shifting to something warmer. "Can I have your contact? I've always wanted your contact." Ivy chuckled quietly. She wasn't used to such directness. "Are you blushing?" Noah asked with a slight smile. "Should I be?" Ivy teased lightly. "Guess not," Noah replied "Alright, Ivy," Noah said as he prepared to leave, "it was really nice meeting you, I'll text you later, okay? "Alright, Noah" she responded with a genuine smile as he walked away. In that moment, Ivy felt a flutter of unexpected warmth, a small spark amid the ordinary end-of-day routine. It was a simple exchange, yet it hinted at something more.
