Damn it, the damn stupid connection between us was beating like a war drum in my chest. I hated with all my might that this i***t hadn't formalized the rejection.
In fact, when Liam rejected me for Nathalia, he ordered me never to accept the rejection, so my wolf remained obedient to her mate.
"Bridge, answer me for God's sake, why are you here?" His sudden question made me open my eyes in confusion.
Was he really asking me that question after increasing my father's debt?
Without expressing my anger, I pushed those treacherous thoughts aside and looked him in the eye, frowning with contempt.
“Why am I here? I'm working. Or have you forgotten that I have a debt to pay?” I insinuated, my voice laden with mockery.
The mere thought that, because of Liam, I was in that damn bar serving his disgusting friends in the middle of Christmas made me want to vomit the icy air around me. However, despite my anger, I kept a straight face as I clenched my teeth tightly.
“You know I can get you out of here. Accept my offer and you'll never have to work here again,” he suggested, his calmness turning into a look of contained anger.
As soon as I heard him say that, I couldn't help but let out a mocking laugh. “No! I won't accept being Nathalia's servant, let alone yours!” I added, clenching my fists until my knuckles turned white.
My words were enough to make him let out a loud sigh of frustration. For a second, I saw his eyes turn as red as the Christmas decorations around him.
Faced with this, I took a step back, but before I could take a second step, Liam grabbed my shoulders, pressing my chest against his. “Then I propose that you be my lover, and I will eliminate your father's debt.”
My breath caught in my lungs when his words reached my ears.
What the hell? Had he really proposed that to me? Right here, in the shadow of Christmas, between the smell of grease and the cold of the tile. This man's audacity was impressive.
“How can you ask me something like that?” I shouted, my voice boiling with anger.
I felt stupid for falling in love with Liam. I had always seen him as the decent man who would make me happy. That was why the goddess Luna had brought us together.
Now he was here, asking me to be his lover as blackmail, just as people in the hall were celebrating Christmas Eve. My eyes burned with tears, but I held back; I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of seeing me break down.
Meanwhile, Liam squeezed my waist, leaving me immobile at his mercy. Damn it, my wolf moaned in my head as our mate's hot breath brushed my face. The scent of cinnamon and punch wafting from the party made it all seem even more unreal.
"Think about it, Bridge. I can hear her purring for me" he hinted, raising a hand to caress my cheek
As much as I wanted to push him away and punch him, part of me also craved his touch, which made me feel even more like an i***t.
“Bridge. You need me more than I need you. The Moon Goddess herself brought us together; the mate bond will never be broken. Besides, I promise I'll f**k you every day and keep your family safe at the same time. You just have to agree to be my lover..." he smiled, running his thumb down my right cheek.
His soft touch made my skin tingle, almost to the point of driving me insane, but I quickly shook my head, found strength within myself, and pushed his body away from mine, placing my hands on his torso.
“No! I'll never go back to you! Now get out!” I said with all the rage I could muster.
At my response, Liam raised his hands in the air and let out a sarcastic snort. The little bells on his ridiculous Christmas scarf jingled softly.
“Then you'll become the little w***e of the whole pack. Maybe that's all you're good for, after all...” he began.
I didn't let him finish. With all the anger built up inside me, I raised my leg and kicked him between the legs.
A scream of pain escaped his lips as he quickly brought his hands to his crotch. "Damn b***h! How dare you?“ he shouted, his eyes completely black.
At that, I turned to run away from him, but when I turned my back, I felt his huge hand close around the back of my neck. ”Aah!" I moaned in pain.
However, when he raised his hand to hit me, his eyes remained fixed on my neck. For a moment, I saw a reflection of myself in his dark pupils: the green and red lighting of the Christmas kitchen made my face look sickly.
What the hell? I had no idea what was going on, but without warning, Liam used the same hand he was going to hit me with to grab the collar of my uniform and pull it down.
“What the hell is this? Is that a f*****g hickey?” he asked, fire coming out of his mouth.
Shit. s**t. How could I forget? On Christmas Eve, James had sucked my neck so hard that the marks were noticeable. The mere thought sent a shiver of satisfaction through me.
However, despite that, I stood my ground. “It's a hickey, can't you see? Or are you the only one allowed to have fun?” I insinuated.
Even I couldn't believe the filth coming out of my mouth. Nevertheless, Liam's pale and furious expression was completely worth it. His rage was the best Christmas present I could have wished for.
“Who the hell have you been sleeping with? Who did this to you?” he growled, squeezing my neck harder.
“It's none of your business. You'd better go to your wife and...”
My words hung in the air as Liam roared and let out his claws, which dug deep into my skin.
The sharp edges threatened to tear my skin as he forced me to look him in the eyes. Behind him, through the crack in the swinging door, I saw a waiter pass by with a tray full of champagne glasses, and I clung to reality.
He would be unable to kill me here, in the bar, and even less so in front of his friends. But as I pondered this, his furious shout rang out again
“I order you to tell me who the hell gave you that hickey? Who the hell have you been f*****g, you f*****g w***e!” he shouted, his treacherous breath lashing my face.
For a second, I wanted to bring out my own claws and dig them into his arm to make him let go, but when I saw his expression full of jealousy and betrayal, I let out a cynical chuckle.
“Do you want to know?” I hinted mockingly.
He fell silent, making me feel the tip of his claw open a fine line in my skin. “Talk, damn it!”
“King James. I f****d your father,” I said.
Liam fell completely silent, the corners of his lips curling up in a sneer. “I never thought you were such a liar, Bridge. The king would never notice a useless omega like you. There are a thousand powerful and beautiful she-wolves that the king is fucking.”
“King James is a Lycan king, and you... you can only f**k scum,” he added, his laughter echoing in the kitchen, as fake as the Christmas Eve joy he had ruined.
The mockery that resonated in his words made my blood boil with rage. But even so, I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to humiliate him.
"I don't care if you don't believe me. James and I spent your entire engagement f*****g like demons" I hinted with a deadly look.
Faced with my lies, Liam seemed inert, but, unexpectedly, he pushed me against the door, hitting me hard in the back. The loud noise echoed throughout the bar, silencing even the Christmas carols in the hall for a moment.
“Stop talking nonsense and tell me which damn i***t you're f*****g! I'm sure he's a useless omega like you,” he snapped, squeezing my neck tighter.
His grip on my neck had intensified. My breathing began to shorten as I could only see the flash of twinkling lights from a tree, while the voices faded away.
