The Rebirth of Harvey
Harvey Lee Torrence and Veronica Marie Suave were sitting in the back of the 1949 Ford that he had borrowed from his cousin, Sean, when everything changed for Harvey. It all started on a chilly autumn night as Harvey was getting ready to take Veronica on a date. They were driving down the road when a 1971 cherry red Camaro came out of nowhere and t, boned them, knocking Harvey unconscious. Fearing the worst, Veronica did the one thing that she knew would keep Harvey alive. She bit him on the neck and injected him with the magic that would change his life forever, thus turning him into a vampire just like her.
When Harvey woke up, he remembered nothing, but felt everything. He felt the searing pain on his neck from where Veronica bit him. He felt his heart beating faster than it had ever beaten before. He felt the leaves falling on him as if in slow motion. He felt the air around him and felt the crisp coolness in a way he had never felt before. It was then that he realized something had changed, but to what extent, he had no idea.
Veronica knew she would have to explain everything to Harvey, but for the time being, her only focus was keeping him from freaking out. And to do that, she had to get him away from the road and keep him away from the public for at least a week, giving him time to adjust to his new form of life. While Harvey may have been her boyfriend, he was also, in a sense, now her child, as she had rebirthed him as a vampire so that he could continue to live. Little did she know that it would eventually cause a world of hurt for the two of them.
The driver of the Camaro stopped to check for injuries, but to his surprise, the other car was empty. It sent an eerie chill down his spine and he turned to walk away. In the next instance, he found himself on the ground, face to face with a set of red eyes. He stared in fear and felt all of the blood drain from his face. Next thing he knew, he was being bitten and could feel his life force being drained from his body. His life flashed before his eyes as he realized that he was going to die and all of his amazing life's work would be in vain.
Nothing could prepare Harvey for the excruciating pain he would go through in the next week. Luckily, Veronica was right there with him, guiding him every step of the way. From catching deer and rabbits for him to feed on to holding him while he crossed, Veronica stayed by Harvey's side and vowed to never leave him. Every night, around 10 pm, Harvey's eyes would turn solid black, and he would get a massive headache that would make him pass out. It was then that Veronica would feed him her own blood in an effort to speed up the process of changing. But it also created a bond between the two that could never be broken, except by death, which was nearly impossible for a vampire.
A week after the accident, Veronica finally felt that Harvey was healed enough to reveal everything to him. She started by telling him about her own rebirth, almost 100 years ago on the eve of All Hallows Eve, which is now known as Halloween. She had been walking along the bank of the river when she heard what sounded like screams of a woman in distress coming from up the path. Being a woman of a somewhat larger stature, she hurried ahead to offer assistance. It was then that she saw a group of men attempting to rob a lady of her purse. She stepped in and tried to stop them, but to no avail and ended up being stabbed. She felt the blood leaving her body and then everything went black. When she woke up, she saw the lady that had been attacked, and she saw the men lying on the ground in a puddle of blood. She also saw a mysterious looking man lurking in the shadows, watching her intently. The man revealed himself as a vampire and explained that he had saved her life by changing her into one as well. He offered her to live with him in exchange for helping to rid the world of evil. She agreed and he became her "father".
When Veronica had finished explaining all of this to Harvey, he looked at her with a mixture of fear, shock, and admiration. He didn't know how to process all the emotions that were swirling through his mind at the moment. On the one hand, he was grateful that she had given him a second chance at life. On the other hand, he felt somewhat disgusted because he felt as if it somehow made her become his mother, in a sense, because she made him into what he now was, a vampire. But regardless, he loved her, and he vowed to use this second chance at life to do the right thing. Starting with finding out the truth about his mysterious birth that no one in his family ever wanted to talk about. He figured he would start with his sister, Barbara, as he had always felt the closest to her growing up, even though she was 21 years his senior. Strangely enough, he had never seen photos of his "mother" pregnant with him but had seen plenty from her pregnancy with Barbara. He had a sneaking suspicion that his mother wasn't really his mother at all. But then who could be his real mother? Was it a stranger that was too ashamed to raise him? Was it a drug addict? Now he has all the time in the world to figure it all out. With that in mind, he called Barbara and asked her to meet him at their old fishing spot. But he had zero intentions of fishing. He was instead going to try to get answers out of his beloved sister.
