IT CAUGHT me off guard, and suddenly I felt a surge of nerves. Was he the one my mom mentioned earlier?
"What’s wrong?" Ace looked up at me, sensing my unease. I quickly ended the call and set my phone down.
"Nothing. Just some scammer claiming I won the lottery, but I don't even play," I fibbed. Despite my lack of appetite, I remained seated, not wanting to leave Ace alone at the table.
"Don't you want any?" He motioned towards the food, noticing my distracted state. I nodded quietly in response. "Why does it seem like you've barely touched your food?"
"I've lost my appetite," I replied honestly, though Ace remained silent. I sensed his quiet contemplation ever since he asked about my conversation with mom. When I brushed it off, he seemed to withdraw into his thoughts.
