A LONG silence filled my room. He didn't say anything, just stared at me, seemingly in disbelief at what I had said. Did he not want me? He closed his eyes tightly, took a deep breath, and finally spoke.
"I'll think about it," he said, then stood up and left my room. I was left staring at the door he had closed behind him, stunned. Did he just reject me? I couldn't believe it was possible.
In my frustration and embarrassment, I lay down and closed my eyes. Instead of dwelling on Ace's rejection, I turned my thoughts to the bigger problem I had to face.
