Chapter 2: Surprising Twist

1070 Words
Just as Officer Santos was unbolting the door from the inside, she overheard Kira mumbling something. "They're here for me," she said quietly to Santos. "This is my fault. All of it." Santos looked at her for a brief moment, then her eyes widened as if in realization. "It's your fault, huh?" She questioned rhetorically. "I know, that is why I will be using you to fix the situation." With a swift motion, she speedily slid with her knees across the surface, deliberately stopping her momentum behind Kira and pulled a g*n from her strap. The next thing Kira saw was a g*n pressed against her head by Officer Santos, properly restraining her. "I just remembered it's better to use you as bait like I initially planned. If they really want you so bad, then they should obey my every word I say since your life is being threatened. I am sorry, sweetheart, but I have to do this because I don't trust all you've told me completely." With a purposeful signal, Officer Santos instructed one of the officers in the van to open the door. It was at that moment the two assassins outside noticed it. "Oh, look what we have here," Zorvix spoke out mockingly as he watched the doors open. "I thought you guys were going to still attempt to put up a fight. Guess you have realized the best course in this situa..." "You are so loud, aren't you supposed to be cold and serious if you want to be an intimidating assassin?" Santos smirked from behind Kira, who was carefully restrained by her, with a g*n to her head. "If you want this girl alive, you will have to come with us to the station." At that moment, all the armed officers in the van cell rushed outside and surrounded the two assassins with military precision, pointing their guns at the duo. "This is bad," Zorvix realized as a single bead of sweat ran down his face. "I really didn't expect a police officer to resort to this, threatening one life to get two." Ravina observed with the corner of her eyes, noticing Zorvix's intense look. Asking him for suggestions on how to escape this situation wasn't even an option. "Don't you think you aren't acting noble?" Ravina questioned, trying to buy time in case they could come up with a strategy to get out of their current situation. "We will figure that out in the station," Officer Santos responded, obviously seeing through their plan. "For now, be a good girl and keep your mouth shut." One of the officers approached the duo with handcuffs and forcefully pulled Zorvix's hands behind his back and detained them with the handcuffs, then moved to Ravina and did the same. The plan to snatch Kira from the police's hands obviously failed... Or so they thought. *** Inside the sitting room of one of the houses on the exact street where all the events were unfolding, Hilton sat on a couch with his legs crossed. His blindfold was still on as always, and his nonchalant grin remained unwavering. "Seems like things aren't going smoothly outside, I see. Zorvix and Ravina already detained, fifty yards to the right." Stretching his g*n sideways, with nonchalance evident in his posture, Hilton pulled the trigger. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! All officers dropped dead to the ground just as they were pulling the assassins into the van's cell. Each of them had one thing in common, and that was a hole through their head. A smile crept on the duo's faces as Zorvix squatted to the corpse of the fallen policeman that had detained him to pick up the key. Only Officer Santos was left standing with a priceless expression of shock on her face. "What the hell! So you guys had a sniper all along!" Her eyes turned frantically to scan around; however, she couldn't seem to find what she was looking for. After her eyeballs darted for some moment, her eyes suddenly fell on something that made her heart skip a beat. The sniper she might have assumed wasn't a sniper after all, but maybe someone far more dangerous than some ordinary sniper. She saw it with certainty of sight: a hole the size of a bullet, forming a hollow trail across several walls in a straight line. A hole? No, that wasn't quite right—there were several holes. The same as the number of officers that were killed by the bullets. The person behind this is not targeting them from a vantage point, but from a random location. The person wasn't targeting them in a spot that would have guaranteed a clean impact, but something that seemed more reckless. The fear in Officer Santos' eyes suddenly flickered away, replaced with something cold. "You would have been more scary if you were smarter," she muttered under her breath as she let go of Kira, running into the last building wall the bullet had penetrated. "With this reckless action made, I can track the exact location of the man who had fired all the shots as far as I act quick. And when I get to him, then the scariest asset the two assassins possessed would be gone." The shackles around Zorvix and Ravina's hands clicked open, and finally, they were free. "So she's all talk after all," Ravina commented sarcastically, with a pissed off expression. Turning towards Kira, who was standing motionless, staring at the ground with her hair scattered and causing a dark shadow on her face. "Hey lady," Zorvix grinned at Kira smugly, twitching his brows up and down. "Are you always this beautiful under the..." Wham! "Yeah, that's right," Ravina shut him up before he could act stupid. "We are here for a mission, and that mission is our only priority." Ravina grabbed Kira, who wasn't even struggling, by the arm. "Save the lines for girls who aren't already a dead lump of meat." "Ouch!" Zorvix scratched his head in painful realization. "This lady was wanted by the assassin organization after all, so she undoubtedly doesn't have long to live. I kinda feel sorry for her," Zorvix added, pulling Kira by the other arm, assisting Ravina. "Imagine being a normal civilian in trouble, then getting abandoned by the police when you needed them the most. Speaking of abandoned, where do you think the officer lady ran off to?"
