Chapter 3: Relationship Between The ordinary And The Unknown

"Oh, what is this?" Hilton rubbed his chin casually as he muttered out. "Someone approaching me? Well, my action was indeed reckless and I left a trail for any smart person to follow if they wanted to discover my location. That officer must think I am the weakest link among everyone because I keep a safe distance. However, I did that on purpose." Bang! The door of the room flung wide open as Officer Santos barged into the room, pointing her g*n at Hilton. "You found me pretty fast, I see. Aren't you proud of yourself now?" Hilton got to his feet casually, stretching and yawning. "The other two died too quickly. I'll make sure I enjoy yours." --- Meanwhile, Zorvix and Ravina had already captured Kira as planned; now the location of the old man was the problem. This is yet another reason why they cannot see themselves giving him too much respect. His irresponsibility was just too apparent. All he gave them were mild instructions like, "go there, bring her." And the best guide he could give them during the mission was, "knock at the door," and that was how they got restrained in the first place. Pressing her hands on her Shadowbud, Ravina connected with Hilton successfully. "Old man, where the hell are you, dammit!" She snapped, barking through the device. "Hey hey, you don't need to shout for me to hear you. My eyes are covered, not my ears, you know." Hilton exclaimed as casually as always, not even minding their insubordination. "I'm right behind you all, turn around," said Hilton. With puzzlement, they all turned around to confirm if he was truly there, and of course, he wasn't. "Old hag, are you messing with us!" Ravina grumbled furiously, clenching her fist. "You might have saved u..." "Come on, that's no way to treat your superior." Hilton chimed in, his voice echoing out from the Shadowbud, and a raw version of it resonating right next to them. Wrapping his hand around the duo's shoulders, Hilton added, "I might have some mercy for disobedience, but I don't think anyone at my rank would show such level of compassion. Not even Vexis, pal." The chill from Hilton's voice made shivers run down their spines. For once, the old man's air of aura had changed completely to that of a real dangerous person, showing that he meant every word. Sweat dripped down from Zorvix and Ravina's foreheads as they remained frozen in place. How Hilton had gotten there—in-between them with his arms wrapped around them like a friendly embrace—they still didn't know. More of the mystery was Kira. She was supposed to be at the same spot Hilton was occupying, but she somehow wasn't even in their field of view. It was like she disappeared the same way he had appeared. All of a sudden. "But nevermind me!" The cold atmosphere around Hilton suddenly disappeared and was replaced back with the casual composure he had always been displaying, finally giving both Zorvix and Ravina the chance to breathe. They truly had forgotten how to breathe a moment ago. "Don't take all I said too seriously; I kinda snapped a moment there." Hilton scratched his head with a forced grin. "Try to whine in a low tone next time; yelling at me triggers my anger most times. If you w..." "We are so sorry, sir!" Instantly, the duo assassins bowed down with their heads nearly touching the ground, formalities on par with a royal knight from ancient history. "Huh?" Hilton tilted his head in puzzlement, staring with confusion that made him seem like a completely different person from the one threatening the two assassins earlier. "Come on, please stop this, guys! You aren't acting natural! I dislike this version of you; it might make me snap once more, y'know..." "No no, we'll stop!" Ravina panicked, fear evident in her voice. "We'll act as natural as we can from here henceforth!" "Ah, that's better." Hilton spoke, exhaling in relaxation. "So, regarding the captive." "Yeah, I mean yes, the lady." Zorvix spoke, forcing a smile to his face that looked like it came through inner t*****e. "She suddenly disappeared from our sight and we never noticed anything happened. How did you do that?" "Huh, no I didn't." Hilton exclaimed. "Don't tell me you let her slip out from your grip." It was at that moment they both froze up, the implication of it gnawing at them. Sweat had begun to drool down Ravina's forehead when suddenly, Hilton burst out laughing. "I was joking, silly." He muffled in-between laughter as he slapped their shoulders in a playful manner. "I took her to somewhere safer where I will be using her to my advantage without any hindrance from her on out." They both sighed shakily, relieved from the bottom of their hearts. Ravina would have lashed out if only this was a different circumstance. "I guess your job here is done, you two. It's nice seeing that we suffered no casualties; in fact, I have found quite a liking to you guys. I will make sure I recruit you guys if I ever volunteer for any missions later on." "Sure!" They responded in sync, standing at attention. Ravina started, scratching her head with forced laughter. "But I... I think... It would be preferable if we do not... You know... Get involved with you more." "Yeah." Zorvix added, still bearing the obvious fake smile Ravina was bearing. "Come to think of it, we barely did anything today. You should take someone with higher status in the organization next time. See ya." Zorvix grabbed Ravina's hand and scurried away, trying to get far away before Hilton could respond. Unfortunately for them, Hilton's voice could be really loud sometimes. From behind, Hilton delivered with his playful smile, "Thanks, but no thanks for wasting your saliva. I have not been persuaded even in the slightest." Turning his gaze towards his pocket, he pulled out a phone and began scrolling through it for some moment with focus, and then smiled again. "I wonder what is the relationship between you and the ordinary folk, Vexis."
