Chapter 5: Vexis Only Choice

1135 Words
"Hello, Vexis." Even from the tone, Vexis could tell the person on the other end was smiling as he usually did—that fake smile he could never forget. Not that he should have forgotten so soon when it hadn't been up to two weeks since he left their residence. That voice belonged to Hilton, the blind slayer assassin. Vexis's hand hurriedly went for the Shadowbud, but before he could pull it, the voice came again. "Don't hang up yet; I packed a surprise for you." Hilton's voice came out from his end. "Isn't that right, Kira?" *Gasp* A smile sprawled across his face as he heard the name Kira, which was transmitted through the Shadowbud with crystal clarity. A wide smile extended on Hilton's face—a real smile this time, but not a good one. Definitely not a smile that carried positivity. "Turn on your phone and dial the EAO Livestream code for personal connectivity 7. I don't want you to assume this is a mere bluff, you know." He obeyed the instructions accordingly, and truly, it connected to reveal two figures in a single white room—one standing, and the other chained to the wall. Vexis's hair cast a dark shadow over his eyes as he stared at his phone screen with increasing rage—calm rage. "Oh, I got the notification. You can see me now, and hear me too. Perfect." Hilton exclaimed, grinning wider purposefully as he could almost feel Vexis's cold expression through the Shadowbud. "Vexis, the solo assassin." He began, staring at the camera dead on as he pulled a dagger out of the strap hanging around his waist. "You have always been everyone's favorite, especially mine." "I was never anyone's favorite," Vexis snapped back coldly, causing Hilton to chuckle gently. "I believe you must have misinterpreted what I am getting at. More emphasis on the favorite—I'm not trying to say we all pamper you or something along that line. It is more like we are all forcing a smile to our faces in your presence while we calculate all the ways to murder you in the most gruesome fashion if need arises. Being the favorite to assassins isn't a good thing, you know. We all believed you do not deserve the spot you occupy as being among the twelve titled assassins. You are like a failure and an unfortunate protégé master has been giving too much attention to, which is wrong. Being an assassin, you are supposed to be overwhelmed by negative emotions that would help you murder whoever, whenever, and however without hesitation. However, you somehow possess emotions that make you so ordinary that even wannabe assassins would be ashamed of portraying. Emotions like... empathy, care... Who knows how many more, maybe even up to the taboo we call... love." Hilton mentioned his last word with disgust on his face, almost spitting it out. "Where is all this going? State your point directly and stop beating around the bush," Vexis delivered with cold composure, causing Hilton to snicker this time. Raising the knife in his hand he had pulled out from its strap, he casually tossed it into the air, causing it to spin crazily as it cut through the air like an arc, falling towards Kira's forehead. Vexis gritted his teeth as his hands tensed up, on the brink of squeezing the life out of his phone. Hilton couldn't see it, but he could feel it. He could hear the sound of Vexis's teeth scraping against each other, and his knuckles cracking. All of that was making the smile on his face get wider. The pleasure of torturing Vexis, who was far off at some unknown place, from the comfort of a room was something he would never dream of missing. Just an inch before the sharp edge of his knife pierced through Kira's forehead, it froze. Hilton was already standing extremely close to her, holding the knife by the handle. "You bastard!" Vexis grunted through his gritted teeth. "You know I am truly a bastard, don't you?" Hilton tossed his knife up to catch it, and tossed again then caught it, and the process repeated. "I am proudly a bastard. That's why you got no Mommy or Daddy to cry to now. We got rid of them since your childhood—ha haaaaa!" Hilton burst into the most hysterical laugh one could ever imagine, carrying pure madness. "You got no family, and after you go down next, then that would be the end of your very own family lineage. Do you know the pleasure that comes from it? Tell me, Vexis! It is an achievement anyone could brag about; that is why so many are trying to hunt you down. You are our favorite, and the one whose head could be an achievement to our collection." "I thought you were meant to bring me back alive to the EAO," Vexis questioned, his rage still making his tone guttural. "Yes yes, you are absolutely right," Hilton responded, nodding his head gently. "Master placed the bounty and told anyone who is interested in tracking you down and bringing you to the organization to do so only with minimal force. Additionally, to bring you alive in one piece. Someone like you is not the type that can be treated gently. Although you do not have the heart of an assassin, you have the training and what it takes to be a titled assassin. The generous estimation that can be given to your strength and capability should be at my level, which makes us equal." Hilton's voice regained its seriousness once more, like when speaking to Kira, as he added, "Trying to bring you to the organization in one piece is something impossible since we are roughly equal. Even with a fight, it might not still be possible, which is why I have no intention of winning this. The best course of action is to let master see how much of an impossible piece of crap you are and give up the permission to put you down. I'll send you my location, and you can come pick up your girl. Believe me when I say this, but I have no intention of killing her. She is just too interesting. Make sure to take good care of her for me until I come to retrieve her; she has what it takes to be a fine assassin that is unrivaled, compared to the failure you have become. I mean, the failure you always have been." The livestream suddenly ended, and the next moment, a message flashed onto his screen. Just like Hilton had promised, it was the address. "You seem to forget the fact that I am not a dummy, Hilton. Your master wouldn't see me coming."
